When do you decorate

for the holidays?

The past few weeks on facebook I have seen numerous people posting about decorating for the holidays. People have posted pictures of their trees and have gone all out. Even posting Christmas videos and songs.

So when do you decorate?

I have a tradition for myself to go black Friday shopping and that is the first time I will start listening to Christmas music (however they did play Christmas music in a store I was in yesterday) I generally decorate the whole weekend after Thanksgiving and I take it down either right after Christmas or after New Years...Last year I wanted my house back to normal so I started taking stuff down the day after Christmas.

Re: When do you decorate

  • Nothing Christmas goes up until after Thanksgiving.  I'm all about giving the appropriate holiday its due attention!  :)  That doesn't mean that Christmas King DH doesn't start playing Christmas music in July or force me to watch the Polar Express over Labor Day weekend.  Stick out tongue

  • I decorate right after Thanksgiving as well.  I try not to listen to Christmas music until then either.
  • I usually start pulling Christmas decorations out of the attic anytime after Veteran's Day Embarrassed
  • We usually decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend (we are usually gone for the holiday so we push it to the week after we are back). This year will be the same. We already have plans to go cut down our tree with some friends Sat. the 3rd of Dec. Now taking it down is another story...I usually get all the decorations down after New Years but getting DH to get rid of the tree can sometimes take until Feb.
  • I always start the day after Thanksgiving.  I won't put anything up/out, listen to Christmas music, or watch Christmas movies until then.  H would kill me if I brought it out any sooner anyway.  hehe

I will confess that I did listen to Christmas music last weekend in the car.  My good friend and I were shopping that day and she loves Christmas like I do, so we figured since our H's weren't around why not?  I haven't done it again since...yet.  Stick out tongue

  • DH and I had a tradition in Brooklyn of getting up early the morning after Thanksgiving (or later that day if we're hung over, LOL!) to walk the few bloks to the market where the trees are sold. It's so fun to pick one out right there on the sidewalk (definitely a city thing), have them trip and wrap it, and then he and I carry it home... me carrying the top up front, and him carrying the bottom behind me. the problem is, we got a bigger tree each year, and then had to carry 4 blocks and up FIVE flights of stairs to our little apartment where it would take up half the livingroom! This year, we have a much bigger apartment in a new city, but with 13 foot ceilings. That could be dangerous. Devil

We usually spend the rest of the weekend decorating while listening to holiday CDs that DH has made. We're thinking of maybe having a tree-trimming party this year since we'll be away for Christmas and New Year's.

  • I like to decorate as soon as possible.  But I do wait until after Thanksgiving.  Since I'm not working the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year, I'll probably beg for decorating then.  Smile

Christmas music comes on randomly throughout the year because I am known for playing my iPod on random and I never skip the Christmas songs even though I skip a lot of other ones.  I also have a lot of Christmas music on my classical and hymn playlists.  I just love it.

AND I'm watching Elf with two girlfriends on Sunday... we couldn't wait any longer. ~haha~

Kelnyc - if you get a 13 foot tree, we have to see pictures!  (Even though I always say I'm going to post pictures of things and never get around to it. Embarrassed)

  • I am firmly anti-Christmas music and decorations until after Thanksgiving. Then it's fair game! I might try to talk DH into a real tree this year. We've always had a fake one.

Christmas shopping though, is ON! I'm going to the outlets next weekend to try and get as much done as I can.

  • The weekend before...I confess.  We always go to family for Thanksgiving and then the Christmas gigs for the quartet and chorus start immediately after.  If I don't do it the weekend before, it doesn't get done.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • The day after Thanksgiving after BF shopping.  I have worked the Sat/Sun after THanksgiving for a few years so I like to get started right away.  I figure if I buy presents I need to have a tree to put them under Smile
