S/O Thanksgiving

The what's cooking for Thanksgiving thread reminded me of some of the usual Thanksgivings from my childhood.

One year we did Thanksgiving at my uncle's house which was by the Texas Louisiana border. My uncle decided he would try a new seasoning to inject into the turkey. It was a shrimp boil seasoning. So our Thanksgiving turkey tasted like shrimp. Ick! Let me tell you we never had Thanksgiving at their house again.

We also had a small dinner at my aunt's house. My immediate family does not drink but the rest of my mom's family does (and very heavily). My aunt and uncle decided to make a Turdunkin (this is a turkey with a duck stuffed inside with a chicken stuffed inside that). But they made this after drinking the whole night before. Turned out horrible! We still have the pictures from that year and my aunt looks so out of it. My uncle had to catch her from falling out of the chair one time while she was trying to give my grandma a hug. This was possibly the funniest Thanksgiving.

  • funny!  Our thanksgivings have always been boring.  Always at my parents  house with my grandma.  I think the craziest we ever got was the year my grandma brought her boyfriend.

My kids might feel differently considering my ancle comes for Thanksgiving now.  I am just waiting for a big brawl between her and my grandma!

  • Yeah...my Thanksgivings were never that lively. They've always been pretty boring [and usually missing a family member or two, thanks to the military].

One year, my parents almost set the kitchen on fire. It was kinda funny.

  • Haha a Turdunkin? That's hilarious!

Our Thanksgivings are usually pretty boring. But a few years ago, my cousin brought her boyfriend to Thanksgiving. My grandpa (who is very blunt) decided we needed to take a big family picture. My grandpa said to my cousin's boyfriend "You can stand on the end, that way if you don't make it we can just cut you out." It was quite funny.

Then, we were drawing names for Christmas gifts. He said to my cousin's boyfriend, "You can draw a name, but if you get my name and you're not together anymore, you still have to come by and bring me my gift." Hahaha.
