Are you still doing paper quilling?  Where did you get your supplies/paper again?

Merci.

Re: ***melinda***

  • Yes!  Look at this awesomeness.

I am making this for my niece for her new "big girl" bedroom.

I've ordered from a few places online.  Most recently:

I've never had any luck finding stuff in brick and mortar stores in the area.

  • Oooh that H is awesome!  I was actually asking you because I wanted to make something similar for my friend's new baby using her initials.  :-)

Are there any tools that are a "must have" and any that are a waste of money?  I've got some paper, some craft glue, some toothpicks, and a set of tweezer things from Joann. What do you use for your backround paper?

My goal is to be the next Yulia Brodskaya but I don't know that I'll ever get there :-)  I wonder if she even pays for paper anymore or if you can get sponsored?  Professional quilling - I like it!

This picture makes me happy because of all of the colors

  • I know, I love her stuff.  Although I am weirded out by the "Darwin was Wrong" on the second page.  I don't get it.

Anyway, I really like the slotted tool.  You can stick the paper in the end to help you curl and I find it easier to use than the needle tool. That, paper and glue are the only real essentials. They are like $3 I think.

I recently purchased one of those boards with the different sized holes, but I haven't even used it yet.  I use regular pins stuck in cardboard to hold the circles before I glue them and I'm usually not doing anything that I care if things are exactly the same size, but I bought it because I figured it would be good to have if I ever do care.

I'm not fancy/talented enough yet to start doing any of the crimping or feathering things, so I don't have any of those tools.

I have been using regular craft glue (and toothpicks to apply it.)  But I read of someone using Mod Podge Paper glue and I bought some to give it a try.  Supposedly you can "paint" it on top of the paper to give it some more permanence.  I haven't tried it yet but I'll let you know if I think it works any better.

Background paper I'm just using regular border scrapbook paper, but I'd really like to do some blank paper with a completely quilled border. Like this, only not white and ugly.  :)

It's just more labor intensive that I want to be right now.

  • Oy.  Yeah, there is a lot of what I call "old lady cheesy quilling" out there.  There's a fine line and I don't want to cross it :-)

Ooooh how pretty is this cake?? Wow!

    This is cute too:

  • Ok, I have never heard of this before!  It looks so cool...I might have to try it out. Those cakes are so awesome!

Thanks for asking about this, Kiz!
