Sarah - since you are here
I have a D&R question that I was going to take to that board, but I'd rather just ask you (and anybody else that wants to chime in here).
What is your favorite brand of paint?
I haven't painted in a couple of years, but I was very devoted to Sherwin Williams for my condo. There is a Benjamin Moore near my new house. I am tempted to try it out, but I don't want to waste time and money.
Reviews please.
p.s. I hate Behr or whatever the brand that Home Depot features.
Re: Sarah - since you are here
Well, I'm no help because I was going to say Behr premium plus ultra. It's the paint and primer in one stuff, and it makes it so much easier to me.
I think Lowes just came out with a competing product though. I'm not sure what their brand is. Valspar I think?
Baby Boxer is coming! 5.23.12

I also hate Behr. Paint snob twinsies!
For walls, I prefer SW. I like the Super Paint and LOOOOOOVE the Duration in the environmentally friendly can, matte finish (with the little leaf on it). It's a slightly different formula than the regular Duration. The coverage is stellar. I should have needed 7 gallons for my living/dining/stairs/hall for two coats using the 400 sq ft/gallon rule, and I needed two and a half. Plus I love that it's almost a flat but still cleanable.
I do like BM Regal. I've used it in my kitchen and bath, and it's good paint at a similar price point and quality to SW Super Paint. BM Satin Imperval Oil is hands down the best trim/cabinet/furniture paint. If you can deal with oil, go with this.
I don't think color matching is ever 100%, so I will get BM if I want a BM color. Otherwise I always go SW. I will have Behr or Valspar matched to SW though, because the quality is that much better.
SW paints are 40% off tomorrow through Sunday. Maybe worth driving for that?
The nerve!

SW it is. And I am buying it this weekend for 40% off. SWEET!
Dawg, I always think I want to hire painters, but painting is one of those things that I am a crazy control freak over. It is also my way of marking my territory.
It takes me two days to paint one room. Why you may ask? Because one day is for the wall, one day for the edges. It takes me at least 4 hours to finish the edges of one room. I know it is crazy to put that much time into it, but I get an insane sense of self satisfaction when I look at those straight lines.
However, this will be the first time that I paint while a toddler runs around the house. Seeing as how he sticks to me like glue on the weekends, it should make for a challenging chore.
We had a lunch-and-learn at my office with our Benjamin Moore rep last week and I learned a TON.
Have you ever painted with BM Aura? It's supposed to be the Cadillac of paints that goes on in 2 coats no matter what the color (even red and navy blue). It's supposed to be super washable too, even the matte.
Also, they have a brand spankin' new product that is the water-based equivalent to Satin Impervo but it goes on like an oil and looks like an oil when it's dry!! It's called Advantage. I guess it's called a "water-based alkyd".
Then there is the water-base (they call it "waterborne") low VOC paint called Natura...
I know waaaaaay too much about paint now, oy.
I haven't used Aura. It's their equivalent of Duration and the guy at the BM store flat out told me Duration is better for the money. I guess they don't work on commission! He said Aura is too expensive, and that he buys Regal, as it's the best bang for the buck in BM paint.
I've used SW's water based alkyd paint (Pro Classic Enamel). It's awesome when I don't want to mess with an oil paint. Nothing will convince me that a water based paint will ever dry to that candy hard finish, though.
I haven't tried Natura. I'm not too concerned about VOCs, honestly. But I will say the Duration had zero smell while drying.
The nerve!

I also like Regal BM.
...wait...
Yeah I'm not sure why the BM rep pushed their most expensive product on us
We used Satin Impurvo on our cabinet frames and it looks amazing.
Sigh...so many choices, so few walls to paint...
And tee hee at "Regal BM"
:-)
p.s. If anyone ever asks... "Low VOC" applies to white base paint in the can only. The color additives are actually what have all the VOCs in them. So red paint = lots of VOCs. Some paints claim "VOC free" but that is only kinda sorta true unless they paint something white and add no tints to the paint.
Bah I should stop. Or else ask BM for commission for my sales pitch.
