Remembrance Day / Memorial Day

Are there any services at your workplace? Or does your employer give you time to attend services?

There is a service here at the university at 10:15. It's held at a spot on campus called Soldiers' Tower, which is a bell tower that was built in honour of the students who went to war back in the day. This morning coming in, I already saw a few veterans walking around. I haven't gone in the past but it's a gorgeous day and I think I will attend this year.

Re: Remembrance Day / Memorial Day

  • There are no services that I am aware of, but our office did do 2 minutes of silence at 11am this morning.  They announced the start and end of the 2 minutes over the PA system, and I was pleased that most people in my office respected and observed that period.

  • We have a planned minute of silence at 11am.

And I said "In Flander's Fields" to my cats this morning.

  • We had a breakfast, followed by a large ceremony this morning. I was really impressed with the amount of students who stopped to take part, rather than just walking by. It was nice to be a part of it. We usually do something every year, but it's later in the day. I think the early time made it better for people to be able to stop by.

  • Here on campus I believe they have some activities planned for the veterans. Including a memorial service and a luncheon afterwards.

  • ZOMG, we just had the worst ceremony ever at school today. Poor kids, what a disaster. The kid who was doing Last Post couldn't hit any notes on the trumpet and everyone was laughing at him. And then half way through the service one of the band members fainted, hit his head on a piano and was the konked out by his cello.

He came to, but the assemby was disbanded at the point we realized we needed an ambulence.
