Home from hospital and down and out

So, I'm home from my emergency surgery and trying to cope with recovery.  Ughh!  The pathology report said I had Acute Appendicitis and Appendic Endometriosis.  I was assuming the "tubular structure" the surgeon removed would be Endometriosis.  I can't believe it's still haunting me after being forced into a hysterectomy 3 years ago!  That just stinks!  On the other hand, I'm glad that it was Endometriosis instead of something scarier!  My specialist, that did the H 3 years ago, told me that I was stage IV which means the Endo was on virtually every organ and that he removed everything he could see but there could be some microscopic pieces that got left behind. (I had 4 laps before the H)  He kept me off of estrogen (totally) for 4 months after the surgery to keep the Endo from growing (it feeds on Estrogen) and then I got on Bio-identical estrogen because I had the worst side effects from lack of estrogen.  Ughhhh...

So, here I am 3 years later...with Appendicitis and Endometriosis on my Appendix!  I'm not sure if the Endo caused the Appencitis or if it just made it worse but I was in some SERIOUS pain.  Now one of my incisions is infected and it looks like it is spreading to another incision.  (I have 3 incision and the biggest one is about an inch across)  The pain in the infection is crazy.

I guess I'm just down and out about the whole situation.  I cannot believe I had to have another surgery...I thought I was done with surgery!  And now I have an infection.  Todd is being a trooper, taking care of me and making sure everything gets done around here.  (I'm not allowed to do ANYTHING)  I had a melt down yesterday because I feel bad that he has to do everything.   He told me to "just allow him to take care of me for once".

Thanks for listening to my vent...I am trying really hard to see the bright side of this situation...I guess I need to get my Gratitude Journal out and start writing!  All I want to do is sit and cry!  Sheesh!  I need to shake this self pity out of myself!  Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh  (Sorry)  xxxoo

  • (((VERY gentle hugs)))  That is a tough hand you have been dealt.  Yay for Todd being a trooper.  Did they give you anything for the infection?

  • Aw, Kath, I'm sorry to hear all that. :-(  I hope you get to feeling better and get back on your feet soon.  I know it's difficult to just lay around and take it easy, but just try to focus on recovering and just enjoy letting your H take care of you.  *hugs* and good healing thoughts.

  • OMG, feel better soon! Make sure hubby gives you plenty of TLC!

As you know, I also had a hysterectomy 2 1/2 years ago, which was bad enough, so I cannot even imagine having those other complications on top of it!

  • i hope you feel better soon
  • I hope you have a quick recovery.  You will be back to your old self in no time!

  • I hope you get better soon! I could not imagine dealing with all that.  I found out last christmas eve (after collapsing in the bathroom at work) that I had a fibroid tumor on my uterus, and that was painful enough, luckily I haven't had to have a hysterectomy yet, Hubby and I are trying to have kids (doctor said it shouldn't affect it right now), but in 2-3 years, I'll be having to get a hysterectomy.

Lots of prayers going your way.

  • Sorry to hear about this, we are all here for you! Hugs!
  • Thank you all so much.  I'm pulling out of the "feeling sorry for myself" mood!  You've all helped a lot.

I know it will take some time and I still have this infection to contend with but everyone has been awesome.  Lounging and reading today...I may venture out for a walk...it's beautiful out there!!

    Thank you all!!!  xxoo
