Gift Advice

DH really wants a video camera and I was considering getting him one for Christmas. Since I have never owned one before, I was hoping one of you might be able to offer some advice. He just wants one to record family events. We don't need anything super fancy. :)

 TIA!

  • I'm curious to see what you learn--we're thinking of getting one.
  • We have two. One that records straight to disc and a Flip. I loooooooove the Flip!

Apart from the size, what are the major differences between a Flip and one that records straight to a disc? Are you giving something up in the form of quality recordings or does the Flip just have less additional functions. The Flip looks pretty cool. Thanks!

I'm not a fan of the flip for quality recording. The zoom features are not as easy to use and the size can often lend itself to unstable footage. However, for things like on the go filming, it's great. My FIL took in out of the slopes and filmed DH and I snowboarding last year. As long as you have th HD one, the picture quality is OK.
