Help with Olivia's middle name!

So Lucas Andrew is our boys name.  No real significance why, we just like it.  Closest thing we have is my middle name (as well as DH's mom, gram, aunt, etc) is Ann.  Andrew is loosely based off that, but we overall just liked the way it sounded.

As for Olivia, we are still going back and forth.  I had been partial to Olivia Dawn.  Dawn is my mom's middle name and we are very close.  I would love to be able to name a child after her in some way.  Well, my mom didn't know this and tossed out Olivia Grace.  Larry really likes that and I do too.  Grace is also a name from my family.  I think my mom would be happy either way...named after her or knowing she helped pick it.  We just don't know which.

So...which do you prefer?

[Poll]

Re: Help with Olivia's middle name!

  • Sorry...first time doing a poll. Did not mean to have that show up twice!
  • I voted Olivia Dawn because it's different and has meaning.  Olivia Grace is great as well - but Grace is such a common, almost filler, middle name these days (like Ann and Marie from our generation).  Even though Grace is a family name for you, I feel like it doesn't stand out as much as Dawn.

ETA:  Unless your mom doesn't like Dawn!  My mom always jokes about me naming a daughter after her (Barbara), but in reality she doesn't like her name and wouldn't really want me using it.

Totally agree with the bolded statement. Which is why i was thrilled to find Gracelyn.

But I voted for Dawn. :) Good luck its a tough decision.

  • I chose Dawn, it's my middle name and my mom's too, it's just a beautiful middle name even if it wasn't mine.  I think it's a great way of honoring your mom.

I also think that Grace is a little overdone these days, it is beautiful.

  • I like Grace. I know its kind of super popular right now, but I don't really care for Dawn. And since your mom threw it out, I think it counts as naming for her!
  • Doesn't look like we are helping here.  Its about 50-50.  I chose Grace because I like the flow of it better.  I know Grace is popular but since its not her first name I don't think it matters.  Good Luck!  And can't wait til the baby arrives!
