Blogs, Hosts, Domains, etc.

I know a lot of you have blogs out there and I'm wondering what blogging platform you use.  I've tried Blogger and Wordpress.com, but I feel like they aren't robust enough.  I am thinking of starting a website using Wordpress.org, but I'll need my own hosting site.  That brings me to my next question...

What blog hosting sites do you recommend?  How much do you pay and what other criteria should I be evaluating?  I'm also interested in registering my own domain name.

Help!  I am feeling really technologically-retarded right now...

Re: Blogs, Hosts, Domains, etc.

  • I'm not really an active blogger...

But I've had my own domain before. I had it for free from Microsoft Office Live but it was really limited (no Flash/etc) but it was free for almost 8 years (when they canceled the free program), so I didn't complain much. But for domain registration now, I would probably go with GoDaddy (that's where I'm going for my next domain--after I get the time build my next site first =P). They have promo codes fairly often (you can find them around the web) that will give you $0.99 for a year (they add on a nominal fee/tax so it's like $1.17 total or something like that).

  • I like namecheap.com for domain registration/hosting - although GoDaddy is a bit more user friendly, they also have some really obnoxious policies in place as far as purchasing/selling domains and I don't like to support that. Smile
  • Also check out hostgator.com - mine is $8.95 per month.
