FFFC's

For me: There are two of us in the music department in my school. Last night, we had a Veteran's Day concert. Here's how the breakdown of work went:

I created the set up lists

My band students set up/tore down almost everything on stage

My band parents brought every single morsel of food (and it was a lot, and people ate it ALL) and decorated the refreshment tables with camo, flags, centerpieces, the works.

I made the program. When I asked for her rosters, I asked for first name, last name. I got her attendance copied from the online attendance program, last name, first name. I also had no idea who sings what part, or who plays what part in orchestra. I asked for that, and I got V, VII, v, C, B written out next to their names, last name first, and I had to sort them.

My band parents cleaned everything up.

I shut almost everything down.

She didn't arrange a pianist for her portion of the concert (vocal) because she forgot about it until Monday or Tuesday.

She never asked the lighting/sound kid to be there. I asked him but he couldn't go. Then she said, "There's no mic for us to talk to the audience." I told her to talk loudly because she didn't set up a mic and I wasn't asked so we would just deal.

All I got were apologies about being busy. At the end of today, I will have worked a 60 hour week because of honor bands, basketball games, and the concert. This is bullsh!t.

(And yes, the band parents noticed that no other parents brought refreshments. When I talked to the other teacher, I just got excuses about parents not emailing back, she doesn't have all their emails (I don't have all mine either, btw, and some of mine don't speak English so I email the kids instead) and that she refuses to check her work email at home because she wants to keep the two places separate. So do I, but I can shoot an email here and there in the evenings and still have my "home" time. I didn't know what to tell the parents without making the other teacher look bad. I just thanked them profusely for their efforts.)

I wish I could say I feel better for getting that off my chest, but I don't. I had a blast with my kids, and they were great. But all the other stuff starts to overshadow. And this was really long. My apologies.

Re: FFFC's

  • M will be spending time down in TX with my parents until we go down there for Thanksgiving. I will miss her like crazy but I am looking forward to my babyless weekend coming up. We have alot planned and it will be alittle bit easier to get it all done without having to worry about who is taking care of her.

  • That sucks. Hardcore. People + whack excuses = LAME. Those band kids are so lucky to have a teacher like you.

I'm irritated at H for not doing enough to arrange for his move to CO, and we had to pay out of freaking pocket for the stupid people to store his stuff for less than 24 freaking hours. He should've just crammed it all into his apartment so that we wouldn't have had to pay $130 for one day of storage and an additional move. I'm so pissed about it right now.

My mom and I bought half season Thunder tickets this year - and my mom doesn't want to go to any of the games. Um, we didn't drop a chunk of change to not go to the games Mom. Example: she's not going tonight because tip-off is too late. I, however, am still going. Geez.

  • Just because I sit behind a desk all day does not mean that I don't work hard.

  • Nothing to see here, people.

So, yeah, don't quote this, please.

Thanks, I appreciate that. My husband said in response to my venting about this that because the other teacher doesn't seem all that involved with her programs, then the parents respond accordingly. I think I have to agree with him!

  • Hopefully this will post this time!

My husband has a coworker that he complains about occassionally. I guess she is "germy," kind of an idiot, her outfits are inappropriate (sweatpants on Friday, anyone?), sometimes she smells bad, and she is rude.

Well, it dawned on me this week that I know her.  She used to be one of my supervisors at my very first accounting internship.  Her final evaluation of me was so totally inappropriate - in fact, it made such an impact on me that I keep in in my cedar chest of what NOT to be like as a supervisor. I feel like as women, we need to be "lifting" one another up and she clearly does not feel that way.  Regardless, the eval said nothing about my work product (which was excellent) but attacked me as a person.  I realize that I was green and did need to grow up a bit but...at the same time, I was 21 years old.  Most disturbing in the eval was that she documented that I dressed inappropriately while at work. When I questioned her about this, she could give me NO specific examples.

Anyway, when it dawned on me who DH is always complaining about I felt very satisfied by his assessment of her.  Flameful or not, I like that she has continued to be nothing and I happen to have really made something of myself. And I'd like to think her nasty eval is one of the reasons why!

    Thank you germy lady!

  • I am listening to Christmas songs right now. And loving it!

That is definitely the plan! It was just sooo random and weird.

Don't say that! :P She's probably going home with JJ, and I'm going to stay and watch the game, then hang out with my sister. We had tickets to Wednesday's game and didn't go, so I really want to go tonight.

But I'm not a fan of the late tip, either. Stupid East Coast game. Sigh.

I sort of like the late start.  H had time to come home and see the kids for a bit before the game Smile

  • Hmmm...I think Americans in general have a low level of class consciousness.

I also think "Will and Grace" really should have been called "Jack and Karen" because they stole the entire show.

Finally, I get annoyed when DH spends extra money on the house (for things like tool box systems) despite the fact that I do it all the time (for things like decor.)
