nursery decor - need input

ryan and i think we're going to decorate with fish, but i need some help with the color scheme. in the new house, the walls in the room we're going to use for the nursery are light blue (freshly painted). do you think we should paint an accent wall? maybe one wall teal (like the bottom of the first and second photo) or do one or two walls yellow like the third photo?

i am planning on  yellow accents (curtains, lamp shade, maybe rocking chair cushions, etc.). do you think blue and yellow is gender neutral or do you think boy?

here are my fish inspiration pics for the wall decals:

And here are the ones we?re going to get (the last option shows all the colors available? so we?ll get two sets and possibly get a third set when the baby?s here... if we need to add some pink (or purple) fish!

any thoughts/suggestions/feedback would be much appreciated! :)

(i did email this to a few of you so sorry you're getting it twice!)

  • I like the blue and yellow. The teal makes it more boyish to me and the yellow makes it more neutral. I think a pale blue and yellow accents would look great. If the blue is darker def. do a yellow wall. I love the decals... so cute! I love the last picture. It's very crisp looking.

  • I totally think boy when I think blue. Very 60's housewife of me, I know. What about painting the room walls yellow and green, then having blue fish and blue accents?
  • I like the blue and yellow, but then I'm a girl whose favorite color is blue.  I'd leave all the walls blue with the yellow curtains and accents.  Blue = water in this instance, not "boy."

Agreed. I think if you add an accent wall, it will take away from the ocean/water idea. Blue with yellow accents could be very gender neutral. And if baby is a girl I like the idea of adding pink and purple fish Smile

  • I agree with doing the blue and yellow. Very gender neutral and pretty! I have always been a fan of one accent wall. I think we're going to do this too. Oh and I love the fish decals! Sorry I never responded to the e-mail - I have had a crazy week!

  • This is actually my hall bathroom theme - water and fish. I have muted blues and greens, with a brightly colored aluminum wall hanging of orange and red fish.

I love the decals! My favorite is the school of different colored fish.

I think that blue is becoming less gender specific. I've seen a lot of girly things in blue. [I don't see pink becoming acceptable for baby boys, though. Pity.] Yellow accents are great for a baby's room. I like the room with the turquoise on the bottom part of the walls. I don't know why, it just appeals to me.

But anyway, this is going to be a very cute room!

Weird, when you consider that there was a time when pink was a man's color, and women weren't allowed to wear it.
