And I am 500% ok with it. Haha. But seriously. He's on salary, so ya know.
So the last month every Thursday he's been working 15 hour days to help another store out. It's about a 30 min drive there, 30 min back. They have not been reimbursing him for gas and tolls.
Small company, not even 30 stores. So head guy at company dies and his relatives that having owned it but now have more to do with it start looking at numbers. DH's store has been the number one store in saving labor this quarter. They decide that it is because his store has too many salary managers. Note here that they just transferred a salary manager to DH's store from the store he was helping out, because they decided DH"s store needed another manager.
So the Regional Manager and the owner are looking at the managers. Out of the 5 they have at DH's store, DH is the one that isn't planning on being there long term. *He's told them about our plans to move next year*. THEY decide that since he's not going to be there as long as the other managers, they are going to transfer him to this other store *30 mins away*.
DH argues with the RM about it. She says things like "Well R already signed a lease, and your car gets great gas mileage"... Well we have a lease too and if we wanted to put the miles on the car he could go work in a different town and make more then he would with their company.
UGH. I have never liked this company and the way they abuse their salary managers.. making them work any where from 55-60 hours a week when the salary is for 48. *I know, they can do that*.
Long story short, he is not willing to transfer and tomorrow will more than likely be his last day.

I understand your frustration, but it is definitely very bad out there.
I also keep reading articles that in 2011, things are going to get even worse.
Yeah...I'm nervous about 2011, when we're supposed to move to Colorado. If the job market isn't great out there, I'm staying put until we can better afford for me to be a SAHM if it comes to that.
That sucks about your H's job, but I'd also caution him about quitting right away. Sounds like how my old job was...which is why all of us just stayed until we had another job lined up, then we left.
Well that's just great.
how is that even possible?! so sad
And Larissa! You're so busy with all your other stuff that I forget you're looking for something new too.

Yeah, I've mostly stopped mentioning when I've sent resumes or had interviews. I keep getting my hopes up and then dashed, so I'll just post if I get a job. D

Please don't say that. I can't take much more of this.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to trivialize your concerns, but he's quitting because he doesn't want to drive 30 min to get to work???? That's really NOT a good idea for many reasons, not the least of which has been stated here over and over.
I would LOVE a 30 min drive to work every day ... unfortunately, many people drive much further than that to get to and from work.
IIRC, you've mentioned before that ya'll would be sunk without two salaries. So once he quits, what exactly are the plans to keep your heads above water?
I'm sorry but I gave a little laugh when I realized that the main reason he was quitting was the 30 minute commute. My commute has not been less then an hour EACH WAY for the last 10 years. I would totally kill for a 30 minute drive, especially now that my baby girl is waiting for me. And I really can't imagine a company paying for time and expenses associated to driving to and from work - a 30 minute drive isn't exactly having to travel.
I can understand wanting to leave a job that is taking advantage of a salaried employee. It sucks and I wouldn't want to put up with it, either. But in today's economy and job market it's a really bad, and not so smart idea, to leave a job by choice without having another job lined up. Your DH wanting to leave a crappy job is understandable, but the best course of action would be to put up with the job while looking for another one. Once he's secured a new job he can tell the bosses at the crappy job what they can do with their 55+ hour week.

I read that as a housing lease, meaning they can't move right now.
Ah, that makes sense too.
