Christmas?

Okay, so everyone in my neighborhood is starting to put up their Christmas decorations outside.  I am SOOOO excited to decorate my own house for Christmas for the first time!  But, I've always been one of those people to swear that Christmas can't start until after Thanksgiving, yet I feel this terrible urge to decorate for Christmas.  I'm going to try to hold out until the day after Thanksgiving, but I just can't wait!

When do you usually start decorating for Christmas in your house?

Re: Christmas?

  • Our neighbors already have their lights on..crazy! So we put xmas lights on our house early every year..before it freezes and our room gets to slick (our house is really tall... with a steep roof)...but usually don't have them turned on and running til the day after thanksgiving.   Tree and other decorations come out day after thanksgiving or so.
  • I have always been one for giving each holiday a time to pass. But, more and more I find that if I wait till December comes to decorate it just goes by so fast that I don't get to enjoy the decorations as much.

I just took down my Halloween decor today and was thinking of putting up the Christmas stuff today since I'm still not working yet and on the off chance I get work on Dec. 1st.

My neighbor has always put up her Christmas tree on Thanksgiving and growing up I thought this was crazy. However, now I can appreciate it.  It makes sense to decorate when you have your family together and work off some of those Thanksgiving calories.

  • If we were going to decorate we would do it after Thanksgiving/early December. We're moving sometime around the end of the year, so no decorating for us. I have finals until Dec. 20, so no Christmas spirit for me until then.

  • We probably won't do it until after Thanksgiving, but that's mostly just because we've got so many projects around the apt that we're not getting done, and I'm a little lazy :)  H has Thanksgiving week off of school, so maybe we'll work on it those weekends.

  • It was always a family tradition to put the Christmas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving...and I've stuck by it b/c what else am I going to do on my Thanksgiving holiday. Plus, I really do truly believe that each holiday should have it's moment of glory...no matter how much I may like one over the other. :-)

  • Not sure if this is special snowflake, but DH and I decorate Thanksgiving morning.  We put up the tree and ornaments while watching the Macy's Parade.

  • I decorated early last year, before thanksgiving (at least the outside).  I didn't do the inside till after thanksgiving.  This year we won't be decorating for christmas because we will be moving 5 days before.  I'm a little sad about it, because I have been REALLY into decorating the past few years and actually got a lot of new stuff on sale after the holidays last year.

  • My birthday is December 7, so no decor up until the 8th.  My mom started this tradition when I was little, and DH is happy to continue it.

Although we do celebrate St. NIcholas' Day on the 6th.

  • Hmm I'm going to be a hypocrite this year. While I usually decorate for Christmas like RIGHT AFTER Thanksgiving I think I'm going to be doing it the weekend before this year....

Thanksgiving weekend is going to be spent at the in-laws, and the next 2 weeks will be consumed with our HM so that only leaves me 1 weekend before Christmas and not that I have to decorate on the weekend but I like to have time and not feel all rushed on what I'm working on in the evenings so I've decided to do it before Thanksgiving this year - but not by too much! Plus it's only inside our house!

  • Christmas is my absolute favorite and I really can't wait to start decorating. I always make myself wait until after Thanksgiving though! We'll be in Seattle visiting the in-laws Thanksgiving weekend so we'll go get our tree and decorate the first weekend in December.

    Can't wait!

  • I put up my tree on Sunday :) I love Christmas time and wanted to be able to enjoy the decorating time with my DH for the first time. We are going out of town on Thanksgiving and through the weekend so we will not be able to decorate that weekend and I want to have a party the first week of December so it will all have to be done before then. We bought our outdoor lights last night (Home Depot has a great deal that you can trade in old lights, working or not, and get $3 off LED lights) and plan to put those up tonight before it gets cold but not turn them on until a few other people have. I told my DH that I was thankful for Christmas and wanted to enjoy it to the fullest :)

  • We usually start decorating the evening of Thankgiving after our naps from eating too much or the weekend after!  Christmas is both my DH and I's favorite so we keep talking about decorating early since is the first Christmas since we bought our house!

  • If I decorated after Thanksgiving, then I would have had my Christmas stuff up since the second weekend in October!! lol

So, for us, right after Halloween is perfect! Although the weather has been really warm so far this Nov, so it's been a bit more difficult to get into the holiday mood...not that I am complaining about our lack of snow so far, believe me!!
