I haven't been around too much lately, so lemme fill you in. and yes, it's long..sorry!
I went to DC about a week and a half ago to visit with my bro, SIL and sweet baby nephew. We had a blast! (pics on fb) baby nephew is the most precious thing ever. it was so sweet to see my little brother in daddy mode. it def. flamed up the baby fever!
we were supposed to fly back Monday evening at 5pm. we got all packed up Monday morning and I went to check us in online..only to realize our flight was actually leaving on Tuesday at 5pm. I have no idea what happened, but somehow we got our days mixed up and booked the wrong day. I was very upset. That was the longest I'd ever left dh or murphy and I'm really a homebody. I was just mentally prepared to be home on Monday. Plus, I promised my boss I'd be in to work on Tuesday morning (she was taking over my job while I was out). I was taking Fri off for dh's bday and I knew if I didn't come in on Tuesday, I couldn't have Friday off. Soo..after many discussions w/ Delta, I got my ticket swapped (for an extra $150!) to fly out on Monday. I flew for the first time by myself (only my 3rd flight ever) and connected in Detroit to Birmingham. My mom opted to save the money and fly home on Tuesday.
I got into work very early on Tuesday. I wanted to get in and get caught up on everything (I've never had that much time off at my current job and knew there'd be a ton to catch up on). Around 9, I got an email from our editor to go into a small conference room and give her a call. I knew in my heart what the news would be. So I called her and she told me they were moving my position to NY (where most of our magazine is located) as well as my boss and our secretary's position. I honestly was totally ecstatic inside.
I've been looking elsewhere for about a month. I've applied to a couple of jobs and actually interviewed w/ one of our sister magazines, Cooking Light, 2 weeks ago. I was willing to quit and walk away with nothing, so getting laid off and being able to have paid time off in December and getting to cash in my vacation days while I looked for another job was just icing on top!
yesterday, I got a call from Cooking Light and I got the job! I start the first week in January (which is when I'll be eligible to work for the same company after being laid off). I'll be doing pretty much the same type of work I did at my previous position.
It's going to be very different for us. It's part time, but it pays more hourly than I made before. So it will be a cut in pay, but not as drastic as going say part time at Hobby Lobby. I'm literally moving across the hallway and will be working w/ a great friend that used to work at Health (he helped get me this job b/c he knew how miserable I was).
I'll be working MWF, 6 hours a day and then I'll have Tues. and Thurs. to do housework, a sahm to murphy
, errands and focus on Pinwheel Press.
We'll have to be even more careful w/ our spending, but we can definitely make this work. I'm very excited to try this new schedule. I hope it all works out for the best!
