My fiance and I are from Virginia but currently live in AZ while he's in law school. We want to move back east after he's out but we're not sure what city to move to. We are looking for a small to medium sized city that has a strong cultural center (music venues mainly, but also performing/visual arts, sports, etc), and job opportunities for a new lawyer. I know this is a NC board but we are open to any east coast city within driving distance of Richmond. If you love where you live, let me know! Thanks for the help!
Re: Moving back east!
We also live in the Charlotte outskirts, near Mint Hill/Matthews but we are actually in Union County (versus Mecklenburg county where Charlotte, Mint Hill and most of Matthews is located) because we preferred the lower taxes, better school system, etc.
Check out www.Allentate.com for a good listing of homes for sale. This is a very nice area with a close proximity to uptown (for the restaurants, nightlife and arts), with a small-town feel locally.
Good luck!
I love the area. We are close to lots of shopping and restaurants we can walk to the grocery store from our house and we are 15-30 minutes from pretty much anywhere you'd want to go in Charlotte/ Matthews/ Mint Hill. The best part is that I found a job within 10 minutes or less from our house. Let me know if you need any suggestions or have any questions.
How long have you been in Charlotte?
You could look at Burlington. It's about 20-30 minutes from Greensboro, and 30-40 minutes from Durham/Raleigh (all depends on what part of Burlington). There's lots of things around, and it's really growing. My friend's husband is really active in the local theater, he's always doing some sort of play. And with it being close to Greensboro and Durham/Raleigh you get all the amenities of the bigger cities, without having to live there. There's always something going on at the Greensboro Coliseum, there the DPAC in Durham, and various venues in Raleigh.
If interested, we used an awesome realtor in that area, John Clark @ Century 21, or if you are more interested in a bigger size city like Greensboro (which has a lot of smaller outskirt cities), I have a friend who's an excellent realtor for the Greensboro and surrounding area, Jay Metzger @ Coldwell Banker. They're both more than happy to help people who are possibly interested in the area. Jay talked to DH's cousin about financing options and they're buying a house in Atlanta. He's just a really nice guy!
