anniversary trip

Is anyone planning or thinking of planning an anniversary trip for next summer?  I know it is far off, but we were thinking of having this partially be part of our Christmas presents to each other.

We are thinking of flying out west to the Grand Canyon or driving up to Maine to go to Acacia National Park.

Anyone have other fun suggestions?  DH is not really a beach person and we love to drive around to explore and be outdoors.  I would like to go somewhere new, so upstate New York is out, even though I LOVE that area!

Thanks!

  • I would like to, however, we are going on a vacation to Florida in March.  I'm not sure if another vacation in July is realistic or not.  I would even like to go somewhere such as Cape Cod or Maryland.  On a side note, I love the Thousand Islands too....that is where I got married! Smile
  • What about Vancouver and Seattle??  We are thinking of doing that for our honeymoon (although we may decide we are ready for the beach/doing nothing by the time we go!)
  • I hadn't thought about it at all... I had imagined us taking more vacations than we have before we got married, now that we have graduated and have decent jobs, but that doesn't seem to be happening, mostly because we are saving every penny for a house. Maybe we will plan something, though, a driving vacation/camping.
  • Memphis/Nashville. So much to do there - I had a blast when I went with some friends. A lot of history, a lot of great restaurants and bars, and there is always Graceland!! (I thought it would be really corny, you know with all the crazy elvis fans who think he's alive. But it was actually a TON of fun!)

We know we want to start camping again this spring when it gets warmer again.  We used to go to SW PA and West Virginia to camp all the time when we were in school.  We want to start those cheap weekend trips again!  We were just talking about that this morning!

  • DH and I are going back to Asheville, NC to a cabin we found a year before the wedding.  It's wonderful and relaxing.

I would HIGHLY recommend Acadia!  We went there for our honeymoon and loved it.  The weather  was nice the entire time ( not too hot!).  We stayed in Bar Harbor itself at a nice hotel.  There are so many activities to do (hiking, boating, fishing, whale watching-not my favorite, shopping, and DINING!)  When we were leaving, we were both really sad our trip had come to an end.

  • We've thrown around some ideas for an anniversary trip. Just not sure if/when we'd be able to do one since our ideal plan is to be moving back to Atlanta this summer.

We've talked about flying out to Vegas for like 2-3 days, then renting a car and driving to the Grand Canyon, and then maybe driving down to like Phoenix for a day or two.

Another idea was going to San Francisco for a couple days then driving up the coast, stopping at Yosemite to see BIL. Or maybe starting in Portland and driving down the coast (my sis is in Portland).

A cruise was also mentioned cause you can typically get some really great deals on those - especially if we decided to do something last minute since we don't really know where we'll be living at that point.
