Cleaning with a toddler?

Anyone have a trick?  Its a serious challenge, I mop, he wants to mop (I got him toy cleaning supplies, but he's only interested in my mop/vacuum est)

Re: Cleaning with a toddler?

  • My kid loves his toy vacuum and I'm shocked (normally he will only use the real stuff).  Get a cheap deck mop, cut the handle down, and tape the heck out of the top so the rough edges don't get him.  As far as cleaning surfaces, get a spray bottle and fill it with water and give him a few rags or paper towels.  Does he still nap, if so do floors while he sleeps (I rarely took advantage of that time, now he doesn't nap and it's 100X harder).
  • I do all my cleaning when he is napping.  He does love to use the swiffer though!

  • Buy an extra swiffer, if you can swing it...and take the middle section out so it is more their size.  That worked for mine.  The toy ones didn't work either.

How old is he?  Can you have him do other tasks?  Mine will take a long time "detailing" the table.  :)

Hang in there, it can only get easier right?  lol!  I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old!  SO I can totally understand.  Some days, they go play together and let me clean, other days I cannot get a thing done.  And hubby just doesn't get it sometimes. He thinks I just sit on my butt!  Grrr :)

  • I usually put DD in her high chair with crayons or something when I am trying to clean and she is underfoot.  I clean the bathroom (floors, toilet, and sink) while she is playing in the tub.
