Huge lit tree off of Cedar near river ?

I don't often drive that way at night, but I happen to be driving south on Cedar last night and saw that it's already lit up for the season. It is so beautiful! Does anyone know the story behind the family that does this every year?

I didn't think they lit the tree until after Thanksgiving!

and FYI, they DID change to LED lights this year. i drive by it every single day (twice!) and it's spectacular. i love these people for their tree. it makes everyone smile.

I saw it! I love that they switched to LED lights, too! I drive by it a lot since I live south of the river.

It wasn't lit last night so maybe it was a one time thing before Thanksgiving.

Maybe they had it on but then turned it off by the time I drove past around 9pm last night. I know it was lit up on Wednesday when I drove by around 5:30pm.

Dh and I drive down there a couple of times during the season to see it. This year I think we're loading up all 4 nieces/nephews to check it out.

It's such a beacon up on that north hill as you cross the MN River -- I love that tree!

Thanks Anita for posting the link. I didn't know the STrib had done a story on them. I used to love looking at that tree when I drove to and from work several years ago. Now I look for it when I visit my parents in the winter.

I love this tree. I always look forward to this time of year when they flip the switch. I too didn't think they turned them on until after Thanksgiving.
