I just now saw your answer to the post about Switzerland.  You'll have so much fun in Davos. :)  I've never been, but I had classmates when I was younger (and living in Switzerland) that went every yet.  My mother and bro got to Arosa for skiing.

My relatives (well, they are my substitute familiy, I have more contact with them than my own family) lives in the Luzern area.  We usually concentrate are time there.  In September we had a "Tell Pass" which allowed us to travel in central Switzerland for 5 days free and the rest 1/2 price on the public transportation.  We usually try to get up the mountains as much as possible. The Tell Pass makes it really affordable.

One of these days we'll go in winter. We'll be able to stay at my cousins which is close to some ski areas. :D

  • I can not wait...I love the snow!!! It is so beautiful there...my picture in my sig. is actually from Davos 2 years ago.

We did the same thing with the pass last time we were there. We also did a train pass that was unlimited # of trips for a week. We spent a lot of time on the trains!

Have you gone to Lugano when you were there? I love it there as well.

  • When we went last year (May, 2009) we spent a few days in Maggadino.  It's across the lake from Ascona in the Tessin.  DH didn't believe that there were palm trees in Switzerland - we now have photographic evidence!  It's a nice area - esp. when the weather in the rest of the country is crummy. They always seem to ahve sunshine!

My cousin's wife's family has a condo in Scuol (in Engadin), which is on the other side of the pass from Davos.  It's a great ski area, but we were there during spring one year.  I've tried to show DH the various areas in Switzerland...St. Gallen and North-Eastern Switzerland is still missing, as well as the French part.  My favorites are central Switzerland, Bernese Oberland, and the Wallis so we tend to spend the bulk of the time there.

The rail system is fabulous.  DS and DD really enjoyed the various modes of transportation.  On one trip this year, we managed to do the train, boat, cable car, gondola, PostAuto (yellow bus), and train again. Oh...boy...the loved it!

If you ever get to Luzern, you ought to try the "Swiss Transportatin Museum." It's really hands-on and a great museum with lots of history.
