Place to sell used instrument?

I recently moved and in going through old boxes I found my flute from 6th grade!  My parents bought it brand new back then and I only played for 1 or 2 years.  It needs some cleaning and has a small dent in one of the connecting pieces but I imagine it still works just fine.

Is there a music store/school/place I can take this and sell it to them?  I have no clue what it's value is so I don't know that I'd want to do Craigslist.

Thanks!

  • Music Go Round buys used instruments

  • Music-Go-Round will take it, but they will only give you about half of what they will be able to turn around and sell it for. You will get the most $ using Craigslist. Look for the brand name and a model number if possible and google it, that will give you a good idea of what people are selling it for on eBay etc...if you need any more help figuring out the value, PM me, I am a flute teacher and I also have quite a bit of music retail experience. I can definitely help :) Schools will also take it, but usually only as a donation. HTH! (sorry for lack of paragraphs...I'm on my iPhone...)

Thanks!  I know it's an Emerson but I'll have to look and see if I can find a model number.  I'll PM you if I have any more questions!

  • I had two flutes and ended up donating one to my high school's band program.  It turns out it wasn't worth much at all in a sale so I thought donating was a good idea.

If you don't want to go that route you could call a couple of music stores and just see what they think.  Chances are you won't get as much as you'd hope but it might be worth a few bucks! :-)

    Good luck!

  • A to G Music in Osseo does consignment. The best time to bring instruments to them is in September because of rental season, so they may advise you of that. Because its a mom and pop store, they won't give you the run around and will help you figure out what the instrument is worth. I suggest giving them a call in advance so you don't come by when they're busy. There number is 763-420-5500.
