WWYD: Driving @34 weeks

We have decided to stay home for Christmas this year and not travel, but DH's Grandpa called last night and said they're doing Christmas on Dec. 11th.  It is a 3.5 hr. drive one way and we'll either have to do it all in 1 day or stay overnight some place (hotel) and then I feel bad b/c we're only like 30 min. from MIL at that point too.

I really don't want to go, especially b/c weather could be bad, but feel bad b/c we definitely won't see DH's grandpa probably until Easter.  MIL might show up for Christmas at our place and will definitely show up for the baby and we'll see her next weekend too, so I'm not worried about missing her.

So would you drive 3.5 hrs. for a meal/family time for a few hours at 34 weeks pg? Also, it is the weekend before Alex's bday and that is when I wanted to have a small bday party for him.  Plus, we're travelling all over OH and WV next weekend.

  • I think if it's possible, I'd go.  If you don't see his grandpa all that often, and he called to invite you, I'd definitely make the effort.

I don't think it's necessary to visit MIL though since you'll be seeing her so soon.

  • I drove to Cincinnati when I was 32/33 weeks pg with ds and I was uncomfortable and miserable the entire 3.5/4 hr car ride, I wouldn't do it again. The longest I can stand to be sitting in the car right now is about 1 hr.
  • I drove to cleveland, columbus, and cinci over a weekend when I was 34 weeks with Kenleigh and went to two concerts. I managed just fine. It's definitely doable if you WANT to do it. lol.
  • I rode to Cincinnati, walked to and sat through a baseball game, went to a movie and rode home in the truck around 32 weeks and I was fine. I would say it depends on your comfort level at that point... I think everyone is different.

  • I was supposed to go to my baby shower in Toledo (2.5hrs) at 29 weeks. My blood pressure spiked and I went into the hospital that week and had A that weekend. So no, I would not travel that far at 34 weeks.
