Waxing?

Okay, so i've never tried any sort of waxing. I'll just start there.

I've been thinking about maybe doing a bikini wax, and maybe even full leg wax, before our trip to Mexico.

a) Am I crazy to think I can do both in one (long) appointment? Is that just insufferable?

b) how long does a bikini wax last for you?

c) any advice on how best to face such a crazy stunt?

I've got some gift cards to a very high end salon that I'd use for this... it would essentially be "free".

Re: Waxing?

  • I've never done leg waxing, so I'm not sure about that.

But I had a Brazilian wax when I was 26 weeks pregnant and it really wasn't that bad. And you're supposedly more sensitive when you're pregnant. I say go for it! Take a couple Advil or something before hand (I didn't do this, but I heard it helps). It lasted about 4 weeks. It was great!

I suggest doing it a few days before your trip, not the day of or the day before. I was kind of swollen and sore to the touch (like a bruise feels) for a day or two.

  • I'm getting my bikini and eyebrows done on Friday. I recommend exfoliating real good prior. I've never done my legs. I would think that legs are easier than bikini. I'm not gonna lie, waxing hurts!

  • a) I don't think it's crazy to do both (now if you said Brazillion and leg I might change my answer)

    b) my bikini waxes have always been really quick, I was surprised the first time maybe about 5 minutes (not including prep time undressing waiting etc)

    c) iburprofin before hand and ask for recs, I found my place through the knot and it's definitely a preferred one over others.

ETA okay sorry I missed the gift card part. I would still ask for recs on who to see though

  • I've gotten a couple of Brazilians before.  My advice?  Use the hard wax!  When the lady used the hot wax on me, I broke out in little white bumps all over down there.  It was pretty gross and was totally a reaction to the wax.

If it were me, I wouldn't do it in one.  I'm also a big baby.  Enough is enough when it comes to pain for me.  I've heard that the shins hurt pretty bad, but I don't have any experience.

A wax lasts about 3 weeks for me.  My hair grows super fast.

Maybe some wine beforehand.  And wear loose pants and panties to put back on afterwards.  It hurts like helll to have anything touching it right afterwards.

    Wow

It hurt, don't get me wrong, but it was nowhere near as bad I expected.

  • I typically get Brazilians.  I love the results.  When I went more frequently, I would go about every 5 weeks.  Yes, it hurts but I agree with PPs that some type of pain med before might help.  A full Brazilian takes about half an hour.  Definitely do it a day or two before you leave...the day of is usually pretty tender.

  • Thanks, everyone!

I think my only challenge in terms of timing at this point is that I'm expecting AF the week before going... doesn't sound like the time to get that done. So, maybe I need to get it done more like 10 days or 2 weeks ahead --- not as "fresh", but still in the normal window of "lasting"...

     Thanks!!
