I do remember the Cinco de Mayo issues from before so I can almost see where the principal is coming from but still it is still shocking to me.

Wow, that is ridiculous! So if the child wants to honor his family by flying the flag of the country that he lives and goes to school in, he can't because some children might be offended? You're in America, this is the American flag.

I know. It seems almost like the story is taking place in Mexico.
I think b/c it's in California and that state seems to be more sensitive to catering to immigrants vs. nationals. Not that there is something wrong with that, but you have the draw the line and I think the American Flag is a perfect place to start since it's the flag of the nation in which the state is a member.

I don't see why celebrating cultures and heritage has to be mutally exclusive of being patriotic. It seems narrowminded and small of the prinicpal. I get it, you want everyone to feel represented, well that's kinda what America is about. You know what a great visual representation of that is? Our flag.

And I bet that school, like most if not all, flies the American flag on it's flagpole in front of the school that all of the students walk by on their way in and out of school.
