Okay so I bet some of you have the same thing going on in your 'markets' where radio stations start playing Holiday songs well before Thanksgiving. We have at least one that starts the day after Halloween, two use to be 24-7 not cool IMO. Usually I basically ban those stations and don't do any decorating before Thanksgiving.
I cracked last weekend and listened to Christmas music all day and ran to Joanne's and Micheal's to pick up some stuff for DIY decorations. I got some great blue velvet sparkly material cut at Joanne's with extra wide ribbon so I can 'wrap' the picture in our dining room, and picked up some Marthat Stewart glitter so I can sparkle up a large branch I cut out of the tree in our front yard and put little 'snow birds' in it.
I can't wait to start decorating. What are your favorite Holiday decorations to put up in your house? Describe if you feel like it.
Re: I broke my own rule - Christmas/Holiday related
We don't do much in our main home now that we have the NH house, and that's really where we spend our weekend time.
At home, we'll do a table top tree and some ornaments, and I'll put out christmasy linens like table cloths on end tables and some red placemats and such.
In NH, we'll do a full size (fake) tree, and most of our ornaments will be on that tree. We also hang stockings (but we don't fill them - we have other stockings to fill that we bring with us to Christmas at our families). Last year, I fell for some "garland" that was little mittens, and I hung it on our window curtain rod. That was my favorite thing last year I discovered.
Our favorite non-decoration holiday season activity, though, is on Friday nights, when we drive up to NH, we listen to the "Talk to Santa" radio program on WROR here in Boston. Kids call and talk to Santa about their lists, etc. Always entertaining and super cute!
Here's a couple PIP.

My mom made the stockings and the candles and candleholder are Partylite. The 2 red statues on the ground are not Christmasy I just leave them there all year since I don't dare move them a lot since they are antiques and at least 40 years old (or whenever the Korean War ended).
Ironically my favorite part of decorating is the outside. Growing up we didn't do much outside and I was hestitant at first, but now I love it. We put candles in all the windows, wreaths on the windows, 2 lighted trees on the front porch and lighted garland on the railings. This year DH bought rope lights to do the driveway and walkway.
I also need to remember to take pictures this year, lol!

OMG that Garland sounds sooo cute, as does the call in show. What a neat thing to listen to!!!!
Shelly your mantel is so pretty, even when it's not lit up!!
I picked this up last year after Christmas and cannot wait to put it out. It's the Willow nativity set (it is the larger one with just these figurines).
Grr, I had a whole post typed up and lost it. here is the shortened version:
I want a bigger tree, but have no justification for it right now. We are are in MI for Christmas and have no kids. Maybe I can find one on sale later this year.
My decor: lighted garland on mantle and railing, PB sparkly stockings, matching tree skirt I found at Target last week (not spending $120 on the PB skirt), lots of mercury glass, a jingle bell wreath I made to hang on the mirror over the fireplace, big santa head picture (cute, not creepy, lol). I have so much, but these are my favs so far.
I will take pictures Thanksgiving weekend to share - I love everything Christmas.

I have a light up christmas giraffe lawn ornament, love it! It's HUGE.
I also love our handmade german candle pyramid... its similar to this one. But I know the guy who made it, he's amazing. He also made our german smokers. He's german... duh... and owns his own little german christmas store. It's adorable.
My smoker is a cowboy holding his gun in the air.. and the incense smoke comes out the barrel. It's pretty awesome.

I picked up my skinny tree last year the day after Christmas from Home Depot it was the last one and a display one, it is sooo beautiful. I am pretty sure a lot of them go on sale in the weeks before though too.
Our first Christmas I went all out, last year I scaled back a lot since Xander was only 2 weeks old when I was putting our tree up.
This year I will be going all out again this year, since this is the first year Santa will be visiting our family. Or I should say the first year that Xander will see all the gifts under the tree and get excited for it.
I am going to make stockings for us. We have homemade stockings that we keep at my mom's house, but I want some fun ones for our place too. I'm also thinking about stringing lights at the ceiling this year too, I think Xander will love them.
Last weekend I started and finished shopping for Avery and Aiden and bough Xander his first gift for this year. They are all hiding in our closet so Xander won't want to play with them now.
When we get into a house I plan on buying a new tree that is bigger. I am allergic to real trees so we will never have one in my house.

I can't wait to decorate. We are in a new house so I have to find all new things to do. I am most excited to put candles in the windows since some of the windows in our old house didn't open. I also need to figure out a new way to do lights outside. I am definitely doing lighted garland. I also started doing something new too. Each time we go to Disneyworld I am going to buy a few ornaments. Eventually, I am going to do a smaller Disney tree. I think I should be able to start it in a couple years. So in the meantime, the Disney ornaments will go on the big tree. Here is one of the sets I just bought, and I already know which ones I want when we go back in February.

I also am so excited to have the fireplace on all the time during the season. We stunk at building fires so the gas fireplace will make it so easy to listen to Christmas music with just the tree on.
Drew and I went to a local store here called Ambrose Christmas Store. It's amazing! They have a bunch of little rooms sent up to look like an olden days town and they all have different themes. They have a music shop, an outdoors shop, a bridal shop, an angel room, a whole bunch of stuff.
I can only imagine what they ComEd bill is!
Anyways, we saw THE.COOLEST.LIGHTS.EVER!!!!!!!! They were sort of like icicle lights but a blue LED light "fell" from the top to the bottom. They were cool. We left without them because they were $80 for a 5 pack.
If you go here, these are kinda like it.
