To join the baby train now or later? No, i'm not pregnant

Ok, the original plan was September and the only reason we didn't then was me.  I wanted to be far enough into grad school that I would finish before the baby.

So, really, it's up to me.  DH is on board to start yesterday, lol.  So, here are the facts.

Graduate in May.

Possibly a new school district next year, maybe not.  I'm wondering if it would be a negative thing during the interview process should I get pregnant before May.  Worse case scenario, I teach another year and look for a diag. job later.  It might be ore favorable to stay in the same district but who knows.

Part of me thinks, does it really matter?  What's the worse that can happen (teach another year instead of going right into a diag. job).

Keep in mind, the diag. at my current school retires next December.  Timing wise I could teach the first half of next year and then take her job and hope that my maternity leave fell during the part where I was teaching.

Ugh, so much to think about.  Opinions? What else am I not thinking of?

Re: To join the baby train now or later? No, i'm not pregnant

  • Well here's my two cents: there is no perfect time for baby. DH is unemployed and I'm supposed to be starting grad school next summer. But we're going to make it work, you know?

I say, start trying as soon as your ready emotional. There will always be outside factors and reasons you should wait. Plus, it could be awhile before you do conceive, so just because you start this cycle doesn't mean baby will be here in 9 months, you know?

I say go for it!Big Smile

  • Obviously, I have babies on the brain.  All my posts have been about that lately it seems and I'm not even TTC officially.

You are right there is no perfect time which is why I'm like, screw it, let's start now!  We aren't where we want to be financially but we are fine and are more than fine to have a child.  We will be even more so when DH's store opens (this weekend, eek!).  I have a good job, health insurance is as good as it gets.  What's stopping us?  Then the more rational part of me thinks, wait closer to May when you graduate.  I don't know.....

  • I agree with Ali.  Who knows if you'll get pregnant the first cycle?  May as well start trying now.

Well, if you got pregnant this cycle you wouldn't be due until July or August so plenty of time to finish school. But I don't want to goad you into anything. There was a lot of fear before our decision to start until DH finally said "let's just do this!" Lol! His confidence gave me confidence too!

  • Yeah, I think my H's confidence is helping.  If I'm being honest with myself, I really think those are all excuses and the real reason I'm scared to start trying is knowing that my journey begins with lots of blood work and fertility pills that can have some horrific side effects.

  • I say if you are emotionally ready, then go for it.

I don't know if anyone ever really feels "financially" ready for a baby.  IMO you can always be a better financial position then your currently are.  If you can pay for diapers, formula and basic needs that is what you really need to be worried about.  Oh and a roof over babies head:)

I can see why you're hesitant to start. My two cents: you might as well get it over with.

If you're ready otherwise, go for it!

IMO that should make you want to start trying now because you may have some obstacles to face. I understand why you are scared and I hope that by talking with your doctor or with other women who have PCOS you can find some comfort. I wish you the best of luck with your decision!

  • I agree with what everyone says and I think you should dive right on in. You will be a wonderful mommy.  :)
  • Yeah...there's no perfect time for a baby. I got pregnant my last semester of college and had to find a job...and it all worked out. Everything happens for a reason, and if you get pregnant soon, well, then - it was meant to happen!

I can see your hesitation...but I'm still sending TONS of baby dust your way. :)

  • There never really is a perfect time for a baby, but if you are emotionally ready, I say go for it.  You never know how long it's going to take, so you will be able to finish school, even if you got pregnant today.

This exactly. There's no "right" time. Do it when your mind and heart are ready for it.

  • Same as everyone else, no perfect time. We started trying before we knew DH had a side job and we knew what my salary was/when my health insurance was going to start. These were things we were pretty sure of but they could have gone horribly wrong. You adjust. I mean come on- you will have to adjust once the baby is here! You don't even notice it's happening!

And ditto a PP (The other Ashley? I can't remember)...you will be a WONDERFUL mommy. Praying for you!!

  • Just a question, do you have to go the whole way with the meds or could you start out on a lesser dose?  Just wondering because it sounds like the medication is one of the things holding you back and if you could start out on a lesser dose that may have a lesser possibility of getting you pregnant but have very little side affects it may help you decide if you want to go the whole way...  Just a thought but I don't know much about PCOS.

  • I say go for it!  You've said before it can take a while - so just have fun practicing :)  If you wait for the "perfect time"  you'll be waiting forever...  Our timing wasn't perfect - I would have rather waited a few months anyway - but it happened in the timing it was meant to...

BTW - it is so illegal for pregnancy to be considered at all in a hiring decision.  Even if you are sitting there so obviously pregnant that you are literally about to give birth - doesn't matter - if you are qualified for the job - you have to be equally considered.  So don't let that be a worry for you.  The only thing to be concerned with switching jobs and pregnancy would be the short term disability benefits/leave time available and if there is a time frame you have to work there before you are eligible.  Those things can all be addressed without reference to pregnancy specifically - just showing an interest in comparing benefit packages...
