QOTD: As a child, what are some of your favorite memories of Thanksgiving?
Re: QOTD
I was a chicken fanatic, like the only thing I would eat, ever. It was sad really. Okay I am still a prettu big fanatic actually.
One of my first Thanksgivings living with my grandparents my grandmother was worried I wouldn't like the turkey and made a whole chicken as well (along with two cornish hens for good measure).

my read shelf:
When I was kindergarten Martha Stewart had her very first tv program on about Thanksgiving at Turkey Hill. On that show Martha put butter and sage leaves under the turkey skin for flavor. For years I would ask my mom if she was going to put the leaves under the skin of the turkey. She never did, lol.
Also according to my mom they would show that thanksgiving special year round and I would have to watch it, no matter what season, day etc.
I've gotten over a lot of my Martha Stewart tendencies, thankfully, but that show definitely planted the first seed.

It's totally fine! Now that she's getting older I can nest more! But I usually don't get on till late, so you can have the job, haha!
I miss baking the pies the night before with my two grandmothers.
When my parents were married we would always celebrate Thanksgiving with my dad's side of the fam. My great-grand mother always hosted and the whole clan would go to her house out in the country. I have 41 first cousins on my dad's side and I'm the 4th oldest so we always had a BLAST playing with the cousins. All of the dads would rake up all the leaves and we would spend ALL DAY playing in the ginormous piles of leaves. I also distinctly remember the sugar cookies with icing that my aunt always make. They were so yummy!!
As I got older, my favorite memories were when my mom, sisters and I would get up really early the day after and go shopping. It was always such a joke because one of my sisters is a beast in the morning and the rest of us were always really chipper and excited!! Can't wait to re-start the tradition this year!
My sister and I would always wake up and sit in front of the TV to watch the Macys Parade. We always had fresh bagels and cream cheese.. As a matter of fact the only time I ever eat bagels is on Thanksgiving morning while watching the parade.
I would have to say waking up to the smell of turkey in the oven, Dad lettingme 'sample' his sombreros (kaluha and milk) while watch the end of the parade.
Most of my memories come from after dinner though. Dad and my brother (and now DH) load up the truck and leave for the hunting camp my family owns in the woods of Maine. Once they are gone (usually by 3:30), the girls (Mom, my sister and me) start picking at the leftovers (stuffing sandwiches are a big hit with me and my sister) and watch Christmas movies. It used to be Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas and the Christmas Toy. As we got older the movie tradition has changed to Christmas Vacation. Emmett Otter and the Christmas Toy are the following day as we are eating more leftovers.
Only my favorite Christmas movie of all times.
The whole day is a unified memory.
We went to my Aunt Jeanette and Uncle Dave's house, where they hosted Thanksgiving from the time they bought there house in the 1940's.
We pretty much had the same EXACT menu, including appetizers and desserts, every year.
After dinner, younger cousins (us when we were little, younger generation when we were older). Then we'd play games as a family, usually trivial pursuit.
Uncle Dave passed away when I was 22, but Aunt Jeanette still had Thanksgiving until she had to sell the house about 8 years ago.
She just passed away last month, and it will be the first thanksgiving without her... I won't be attending (we go to DH's cousins since we got married), but it will still be sad.
are you sure your name isn't Chandler Bing? lol
A few memories:
Watching the Rockettes in the Macy's Parade with my Grandpa. It was his favorite part of the parade. I still always think about him when I watch it. The year after he passed away Dh bought tickets for us to go see their traveling Christmas show that was in town.
Spending most of the day putting together puzzles with my great anut and uncle. They had no children of their own so they spoiled their nieces and nephews like crazy. Most years growing up I was the only kid at Thanksgiving and I loved spending time with them.
My great uncle made AMAZING jello dessert. You make jello (using specific flavors) then when it is halfway set you beat in coolwhip and let it set the rest of the way . It makes this super frothy delicious dessert. No one in my family has been able to completely replicate it. We get close, but it's not the same...
