job update

This has probably been one of the longest job searches ever. I've been applying to RIM since July, and as some of you may remember, I was interviewing in october for a mgmt position.  The timeline is insane.

Fri Sept 10 - Applied.

Wed Sept 22 - The recruiter emailed me asking to set up a time for a phone interview. He was on vacay the next week, so things got delayed there.

Mon, Oct 4 - Phone interview.

Wed Oct 6 - Sent Thank you.

Thurs Oct 14 - I asked for an update.

Thurs Oct 21 - I asked for one last update/ last ditch effort, because I figured I didn't get the job.

Fri Oct 22 - Got a call to book an In Person Interview

Thurs Oct 27 - In Person with 3 people.

Fri Oct 28 - Sent Thank you's to all 3.

Mon Nov 8 - I asked for an update. I noticed the posting had been removed.

Fri Nov 12 - Emailed the general info line to see if they knew anything about the job. They didn't, but would look into it.

Mon Nov 15 - DH & I decided that it's been way too long, and it was time to get over it.  A few tears, etc.

Today - FINALLY an email from the recruiter saying, they are still interviewing and I'm "for sure still being considered", and that they'd have a definite answer within two weeks.

I need opinions.  And I needed to give you all the timelines so you can understand.  This is taking FOREVER!  And even though I had my moments of giving up last night, I still really want this job.  But really, I was interviewed almost 3 weeks ago, and they are still interviewing, and they need another 2 weeks??? I'm thinking if I was the one for the job, they would've stopped interviewing, right?

WDYT?

Re: job update

  • Maybe it's a process they have to go through. Maybe they had made a lot of interviews before they knew you were the one for it, but they needed to finish what they started....

    Don't give up hope yet!

  • Don't give up hope!  You are doing the right thing by contacting them to ask the status.  They may have had other people lined up also that are taking just as long and they want to follow through with them too.  Remember that they have other responsibilities than just hiring for this position.  I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Stay positive and good luck!

  • honestly, the interview process (especially at big corporations) is always hectic and disorganized like this. I went through one that was similar and ended up being offered the jobs like 2 months after my initial interview, so i'd just wait it out.

Now, that doesn't mean that you should assume you have the position or stop looking elsewhere --- but hopefully you end up getting it!!

Ditto. Just hang in there. RIM is a huge corporation and I'm SURE the hiring process is just slower there. I mean, they have a ton of job openings available simultaniously and there are only so many HR people available. Sit tight and hang in there.

  • Ditto pp!  It's great news that they sent you the email to let you know that you are still in the running!

Good luck...keeping crossables crossed for you!

  • Ditto PPs- good news you've gotten replies, and rock on to you for the TY notes!

I was in the same position last year with my job.  It took me forever to hear, and I called and e-mailed to inquire all the time.  I didn't end up getting hired on the initial unit I interviewed on, but because I'd been so good about keeping up with the job status, my recruiter lined me up with another unit to interview on... and I got that job!

So, persistence and keeping in good graces and in touch with your recruiter does pay off.  Especially in big corporations!  You will definitely stand out amongst your competitors and no matter what the outcome, your recruiter(s) will see that.  And who knows, if this position doesn't work out, maybe something bigger and better- with RIM or not- will come out of it!

  • I interviewed for a job in June, and was told at the end of the interview that they weren't interviewing anyone else and that the job was mine if I wanted it.  It still took them nearly 4 weeks to actually extend a formal offer.   I however, no longer wanted that job but would have taken it if I didn't get offered the job I currently have.

  • Ok. I feel better now.  It's hard to wait, but I still have my fingerscrossed.  Kim, I hope you're right and they already had these interviews booked a while ago, or maybe even waited to do internal candidates at the end who don't have the mgmt experience that I do.

And Caroline, I love that your recruiter gave you another lead on your current job.  There's still many positions that suit my skill & experience, and I know my recruiter is the main one in my city.

I appreciate the pep talk, ladies! As always :) Thanks

  • Try not to lose hope!  I know at my place of work there are rules about the way employers do their interviews.  For example, they have to interview an X amount of people before they can even consider hiring anyone.  That means if they schedule interviews for X+5 applicants and 6 of them are no-shows, they have to start all over in finding more applicants to interview.  Then it has to go to the higher ups for approval.  So, definitely a lengthy process.  But, since they emailed you to let you know you are still in the running, that is a very good sign.  It shows that they don't want to lose you as an option!
