Thanksgiving dish ideas

I need to bring a side dish of some sort to my dad's house for t-day. I will be going someplace else for the first half of the day so it needs to be something that can sit in the car and be ready to eat when I get to my dad's house. Maybe something cold? The only thing I've thought of is cranberry sauce. They have already purchased it (canned) but I can make a homemade one. Any thoughts?

Re: Thanksgiving dish ideas

  • What about a dip or something? I am always STAVING by the time people get around to carving the turkey. I think it?s nice to have a little something beforehand.

  • You could do bread (I am making Brie and Chive biscuits this year) or a dip like KRHagen suggested (I am making a caramelized onion dip). Or even a casserole like squash or mashed potato.

  • There's a new sticky thread on What's Cooking about T-Giving side dishes (with recipe links!). What about a big salad or a soup that you can just heat up when you get there?
  • How about a pumpkin pie or another dessert that can be room temp?  Homemade rolls or a bread?   Can you stick something in the oven to warm it up?   If you can, I'd do a sweet potato casserole or a mac and cheese, but those are my standbys :)
