Any ideas?

My moms 50th birthday is in January.  I just booked a weekend in NYC for the weekend afterwards for just me and her.  I want to surprise her and give it to her at Christmas. Any ideas on how to surprise her?  The only thing I've got so far is printing off the confirmations and wrapping them up but that doesn't really seem like a fun idea.  I'm not very creative either as you can see, so any input is welcome!

Re: Any ideas?

  • I did this exact same thing for my mom for her 60th!  What about ordering an I heart NY tshirt and having the confirmation printouts wrapped in the shirt, wrapped for Xmas.
  • I like Natalie's idea!

Ahhh great idea.  Thought about getting little random NY knick knacks but never thought about wrapping the confirmations into a shirt first.

  • I like Natalie's idea! You could also get a NYC visitor's brochure and stick it in there...

  • You could send her on a little scavenger hunt...with clues.  At the end of her hunt will be the trip info...maybe a little poem about going away together along with the itinerary.

I do this for DH sometimes (and always on Easter).  I hide clues around the house...one clue leads to another and so on until he reaches his final destination (aka his big gift).

An example from DH's Easter hunt:

"These professional photos are beautiful & we sure look hot. There's no better place for a clue...it's the perfect spot!" (and his next clue was by our wedding photos).

  • What about getting a clear ornament and putting it in there?

  • I was thinking a scavenger hunt or wrapping up a bunch of trinkets that would describe the weekend's activities and then having your mom guess!  Great gift and I'm sure you guys will have an awesome time!!!
  • what about a personalized ornament with your name & her name NYC 2011, and under that have the confirmations and itineraries.  I just really like ornaments...

This is how DH proposed...my ring was hanging from an ornament in the Christmas Tree at the end of the hunt.

  • My idea was a NY frame with a note inside like "Let's celebrate your birthday with some shopping on 5th Avenue".
  • What about wrapping up an apple and including the confirmation with it? You could even carve the word "big" into it. Just my simplistic idea :)  Sounds like a fun trip!

  • How about putting a large apple in a box, and on the stem put a note like "Guess what apple we are going to"

I know... cheesy.. but My mom likes that kind of stuff.

    ?
  • Thanks everyone for the great ideas!  I have a few things in mind now I just have to figure out how I'm going to do it!
