Your Year

I think most of us had a pretty big year. I know it's not the end of the year yet, but it's hard to imagine that 2010 is almost over.

What big things happened for you this year?

What were you hoping to happen this year?

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!

What surprises you when you think about the past year?

Re: Your Year

  • What big things happened for you this year? Ben finally got his promotion and our money problems turned around

What were you hoping to happen this year? I think this is obvious but I was hoping to be pregnant by now and live in Tenn and have bought a house

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes! There is still time for Ben to get a job in Tenn but it is cutting it pretty close. There is still this last cycle to get pregnant but I am trying not to get my hopes up because every other time I have been disappointed.

What surprises you when you think about the past year? I am surprised that we survived with our sanity intact. Also, that we were able to save enough to go to Paris.
    I heart Ben!!

I think you two have been through a lot and your perseverance shows how much you can handle when you take it one day at a time. All of a sudden, a really difficult year is behind you instead of ahead of you!

Thanks Rebecca! I just hope I can do that with TTC.

  • LOL this year was super boring for us!

What big things happened for you this year? All house related, got 95% of the first floor trim painted white, all new siding, new front porch, new front door and storm door and new garage door.  All new landscaping out front.

What were you hoping to happen this year? We wanted to have 6 months of mortgage payments in our efund working toward 6 months of expenses and start our bathroom remodel.  Unfortunately all of that went toward the exterior work we had to do due to bird damage.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!   Well the money was there for a few months, until we realized the damage was so bad.  And with the way things are going and the realization that my promotion is going to screw us with our tax return, we'll be lucky if we can do the remodel next summer.

What surprises you when you think about the past year?  I'm just happy DH still has a job.  We thought we both had secure jobs, but with the way the government is cutting defense spending and that trickling down to DH's company, I never thought we would be discussing a 1 income household budget.

ETA: Sorry I realized that this sounds super depressing and it's not, but the last week or so has been very difficult for us both and it's brought to light a lot of things we thought we would have in place aren't and that means no ttc until we are ready, especially financially.

  • What big things happened for you this year?  My recent knocking up, but before that making the decision to try.

What were you hoping to happen this year? We would get more stuff done to the house.

Did they happen? Some did If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? Actually a lot of it will - new exterior side door, painting our backroom, new window treatments, new humidifier, and a new bannister (this last one might not make it but I am crossing my fingers) For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!  $$$$ vibes for my bonuses for 4th quarter (November has taken a nosedive)

What surprises you when you think about the past year?  How much I loved being married this year, it seems to only be getting better.

  • What big things happened for you this year? A lot of stuff got done around the house. I started my MBA program. Drew almost lost his job, but has been busting his butt ever since to get back on top, he's almost there too.

What were you hoping to happen this year? Mostly some stuff around the house, being able to move onto some smaller projects. Getting the budget more under control. Drew still repsonds to us going over in any areas with a shrug and no concern. It's not a big deal now, but it will be when there are kids. I was hoping that by the end of the year we'd be ready to stop preventing a baby, but that's definitely not the case. At the very least I was hoping to go off birth control, but Drew's really nervous about that. Looks like at least one more year until we're ready to take that step.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!   We're not that far off from where I thought we'd be. The biggest thing is the baby, and I know it's the right choice for us to wait, I'm just having a harder time than I expected letting the logic win out over the baby fever.

What surprises you when you think about the past year?  I'm surprised at how fast it's gone by. We've got some things in the works for 2011, like little weekends away, a bathroom reno, and I'm hoping we get to enjoy them all. I hate the idea of having to be scheduled to the hilt, even for spontaneous stuff, but I think that'll be the only way we get things done the way we want.

  • You better answer this yourself too, missy!

What big things happened for you this year? Goes by the name Campbell James. Life turned upside down.

What were you hoping to happen this year? I wanted to be in a bigger house by the time C is one so I figured we'd be looking.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!   No and no. We haven't really been looking b/c we've been so overwhelmed. I just want our Realtor to be looking for us, I really want them to bring houses to us to look at. I don't feel like searching online. Then I want the process to be fast. And hopefully we can sell ours or rent it fast. I want fast obviously! And I want it to be just what we're looking for too. It's going to be our for a long long time home.

What surprises you when you think about the past year?  I honestly never understood how people said time flies when you get older and now I do. I CANNOT believe my kid is 8 1/2 months old. I have NO idea where time went.

    This!

  • What big things happened for you this year? I finished my Master's degree, I switched jobs which changed my life and I just found out I am getting promoted.

What were you hoping to happen this year? I was hoping to get pregnant this year and really thought it would happen considering we have been trying since last November. I was also hoping to lose weight but complications from my effed up body have prevented that from happening!

Did they happen? No. If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? Hopefully, I will get pregnant this cycle or the next.  I still have a chance and the Clomid seems to be working.  As far as the weight goes, I am making a conscious effort by training for a half marathon.  For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!  Please send pregnancy vibes, or gallons of this mythical Oct 08 water that seems to be flowing!! :)

What surprises you when you think about the past year? What surprises me the most is how close Les and I are.  It has been an amazing journey these past 5 years we've been together.  They say the first year of marriage is the hardest, which proved to be somewhat true as we adjusted to married life.  The second year has been fun as we depend less on each other for assurance of our love, and we depend more on each for support, and a good laugh ---- and for the mere fact that a life without the other one in it would be a sad, scary, horrible void. He surprises me more and more with how caring and supportive he can be and I know I give him a hard time on here because he can be sort of useless around the house but bless his heart - he just doesn't know any better!
  • (I was waiting for others to answer before I did, but then I got distracted!)

What big things happened for you this year? Obviously, Jacob!

What were you hoping to happen this year? Jacob arriving happy and healthy, still being able to do all the things I was doing before, and losing all that baby weight.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!  Yes -- Jacob is a healthy, and very happy baby. We are so blessed! But I haven't yet lost the weight. I'm within 11 lbs of my goal, and I don't think I'll make it by New Years; I'm dreading seeing my MIL over Christmas and any comments she'll make. As for doing everything I used to: No way! We're trying our hardest to get back on a schedule so we can still exercise and do the fun things we used to (for me, baking and cooking), but it feels like things change weekly and we can't get a handle on it.

What surprises you when you think about the past year?  How difficult it has been for me to work after Jacob arrived. I really thought that I could handle it, but I don't think I can. When I look back on the time since May (when I returned to work), I'm amazed that I've made it this far while still working.

I have to admit, too, that I'm stunned at not just how quickly time has passed, but how different Jacob is now than how he was two months ago, and two months before that, etc.

  • I think most of us had a pretty big year. I know it's not the end of the year yet, but it's hard to imagine that 2010 is almost over.

What big things happened for you this year?  Pretty successful at my weight loss goal. DH secured a new job right after learning he'd be laid off. Turned 40.

What were you hoping to happen this year? I guess those same things! Maybe lose 5 more pounds? Embarrassed

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!

What surprises you when you think about the past year? That it went by in about 3 months!  That about 300 of you got pregnant or had babies. That the next big age I get to celebrate is 50! (that made me throw up a little in my mouth.) Ick!
  • What big things happened for you this year? Drew changed jobs and I got fired from my job.

What were you hoping to happen this year? Um... to get pregnant.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!   Nope, sure didn't.  I'm holding out faith though that this cycle with the IUI will work for us.

What surprises you when you think about the past year? That we made it through as positive as we have.  Me getting sick really does take a toll on me physically, emotionally, and mentally.  Poor Drew.  He's got a heart of gold to go through this with me.

  • What big things happened for you this year? it's not the calendar year, but I had a great first year with my munchkin. Andrew also got a great new job that makes him happy. As you all know we were gifted the greatest thing ever, a new liver for my FIL. We have a lot to be thankful for this year.

What were you hoping to happen this year? I wish we were in a house.

Did they happen? If not, do you think you'll be able to get there before New Years? For the things that aren't within your control, tell us where to send the vibes!  no house yet, but with Andrew's new job we should be in one by this time next year.

What surprises you when you think about the past year? How much I can do on little sleep. Seriously I miss sleeping but I wouldn't trade my life for a second.

How much I cried the day Andrew said we had a liver, I still tear up whenever I talk about it.

I am also surprised that I can live with our place looking like a toy hurricane went through it every day.

  • Big things: our new house which is our forever house for now, DH got a new job win a huge promotion, however this new job has made our forever house our just for now house due to location maybe, we got a pool. Hoped: at the beginnig of last year we had already had 3 houses fall through so i was hoping one would eventually work, DH had been unhappy at his old job so he was looking. I figured the house would work out but jobs have to fall into place so I'm happy they both did. I definitely agree with PPs about how FAST time goes...seriously, another year is almost done??? Oh and I hate doing polls/lists from my phone because it doesn't work.
