Cranky (vent)

I know I am probably being oversensitive and childish but I just need to vent.

My birthday is tomorrow (and I am the kind of person who gets extremely excited for my Bday).  Jay has a once a month saltwater aquarium meeting out of town and it falls tomorrow night.  I can never go to these because I work Friday nights.  He asked me if I could take this one off because it is going to be a very large meeting and they are swapping corals so he is very excited.  I agreed and said that maybe we could make an evening out of it and go out to eat for my Bday since we will be in Cleveland (there are some really nice restaurants there that we don't have here).  He said we couldn't do that because he has to pick up his son and we won't have time, maybe we could do lunch locally.  OK, I know his son is important but couldn't he make other arrangements this once (childish I know but I really wanted to go out which we never do).  So I guess we aren't going out and I will be stuck in this meeting until late (we won't get home until almost midnight).  Then I have to work Saturday morning.

His mother asked if she could take us out Saturday for dinner for my Bday.  Jay told her that this weekend was going to be extremely busy and next week would be better (after the meeting tonight I work Saturday and Sunday all day and on Sunday I have to take his son back to his ex after work since he is working too which will take almost 2 hours since his parents and his ex live in different towns).  Yesterday his mom showed up at my work and left a card for me (I was in surgery and couldn't go out to see her).  I got excited thinking it was a Bday card.  No, it was a regular card asking for a recipe from me and also saying I would get my Bday present if she saw me Saturday.  I know she didn't mean anything by it but I was disappointed and thought she knew Saturday would not be a good day to go out.

Jay and I have been working all week, I have barely seen him.  Last night I saw him for about 5 minutes and all he did was complain about all the stuff we have to do Friday.  Really, sorry that taking me to lunch for my Bday is such an inconvenience.  The only other things are picking up his son and going to his meeting.

OK, vent over.  I know I am being silly and over-emotional but for once I would like someone to think about what I want.  Oh yeah, and I have to go to the dentist before work today and begin the whole crown process,  yay Sad

  • I don't think its childish wanting to have a nice dinner on your bday (I also get very excited about them). It sounds like you really can't get out of anything this weekend though, would you be able to go tonight instead? Or maybe Sunday night after you take your stepson home?

  • Jay is working a 24 hour shift today and Sunday.  And I am working tonight.  I guess I will not be having a birthday celebration this year.  It is very difficult for me to take time off from work and I don't get many vacation days.  So I feel like I have made the effort to get my Bday off and it still isn't going to work out.  I guess that is why I am so aggravated.  I arranged it so I could go to this meeting with Jay and have a nice evening.  Now I feel like I have just become an inconvenience for everyone else.  For just once I would like to be the one that got my way without fighting everyone.  And why can't his mom understand that I work full-time and she is retired.  So why can't she work around my schedule, she always expects me to do things when she wants.  Ok, seriously done ranting now, LOL (hopefully)
  • Just because you can't celebrate this weekend doesn't mean you can't celebrate at all. Just pretend your birthday is next weekend, you'll get another week being a year younger!Smile

  • Awww, that's sucky!!  I'm sorry!!  I'm digging Katy's idea.  Just celebrate next weekend!!

I'm the total opposite, by the way.  I hate doing anything for my birthday.  It's just not that special to me.  If I wasn't born on my mom's birthday, I'd skip it altogether!!

  • That sucks and I would be in a bad mood about it too.  I'm sorry nothing is working out.  :-(
