can you negotiate rates with adt?

i would love to see our monthly alarm system cost a bit lower.

Re: can you negotiate rates with adt?

  • I'm one of those people that think everything is negotiable.

    Can't hurt to try.

    now onto comcast.

    it is bill lower day.

  • If it's not too much bother, could you post how you do with Comcast?  We are currently paying close to 170 a month for one HD box with no premium channels, internet and phone.  I was going to wait until we transfer our service to the house to negotiate with them.   TIA!

i call every 6-7 months and hit the button for cancel or reduce services...these are the people who can give you a better deal. basically i am always willing to cancel cable completely so i don't beat around the bush. i say this rate is too much for me to afford, what can i do? they usually give you deal on something, last time i called they dropped my basic cable down to 40 and i got hbo for 10 a month. then also took my internet from 60 to 33. i have to say that person was really kind.

  • We have the Digital Plus package with two HD boxes (one DVR) and we pay $108/month. (no premium channels).

Mr.D just called last week and saved us $28/month off of our cable bill but we got to keep our same package.  We just said that Dish Network was going to give us a similar package for $ 80 and that we don't want to switch but we are willing to just to save money.  He had to talk to 3 or 4 different people, but kept saying the same thing and they gave us the new package for $80/month for 6 months.  They were going to offer us free premium channels too but I didn't take them because I knew I'd forget to cancel them at the 6 month mark.

I call every 6 months too.  I'm currently paying $70 for internet, extended HD cable, HBO, Showtime and a second box that gets the basic ~1-100 channels.   I always press the button to "cancel my cable", that's where deals are the best!

  • I just talked to a friend who called about a pretty bad issue with ADT.

You can see the summary of the call here (tried to get a discount and failed.)

Basically, the issue is that in some lower crime areas, the police won't actually come if the alarm goes off, because there are so many false positives.  Sort of defeats the purpose of having an alarm system, right?

Anyways, friend was pissed and tried to get a discount, and they wouldn't give it to him.
