thanksgiving plans?

What's everyone doing for thanksgiving this year? Are you doing any cooking?

Re: thanksgiving plans?

  • we've been going to MIL/FIL's house for about 7 years now for t'giving and this year they decided they're going on vacation instead! haha

We thought about going to my hometown w/ my family, but dh really wanted his family to still get together. so we're having it at our house! it'll be a small crowd. sil, bil and their two kids. I'm cooking everything but the turkey (BIL has a smoker and is going to take care of that).

I've only ever contributed a dessert to t'giving dinner, so this is a pretty big deal for me. I don't even eat half of the traditional Thanksgiving foods and don't know what they taste like. DH will have to be my taste tester! :)

I think I'm making...dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, macaroni & cheese, yeast rolls, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, and a ham. Attempting everything from scratch.  Hoping it goes successfully. I don't want to be the ruiner of T'giving!

  • This weekend, DH and I are going to his parent's house. We're both planning for the worst and hoping for the best, but there are several conversations that need to be had, so I expect there to be some drama. :(

We're spending Thanksgiving at home with my family this year. So far, there are about 18 people coming, and the list is growing (last year it was 34!). I know I'm making my usual stuff: pumpkin chocolate chip pound cake, au gratin potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. Last year I made mashed potatoes too, but we'll see what happens this year. I can't wait!!

This... except for I am cooking a traditional t-giving meal at our house the Saturday after.  Actual Thanksgiving will be spent with my sister and her family.

I am dreading the in-laws, but this issue of MIL only wanting my SD and wanting nothing to do with Bug has got to stop one way or the other.  This is my last attempt of many, and then I am d-o-n-e.  It hurts my heart.  How can anyone spend 5 minutes with this kid (blood related or not) and just not fall in love with him?  Grrrrr.

  • We always go to the ILs so we're doing that again. She's invited a whole ton of people (except my parents and sister who have nowhere to go so are just going to San Francisco for a couple of days) but I'm not sure how many will come. I just don't want the whole world fussing over Lucie. I know it's to be expected but their house is pretty small and cramped. We'll probably only go for a few hours and then head back home considering it will be one of her first trips out.
  • My mom is tired of my dad's family being lazy and leaving all of the cooking, cleaning, and hosting to her or 1 of my aunts, so we're not going to the big family get together.  We will eat with my parents and sister at my parents' house.  I think I upset MIL that we're not coming over to her house, but she didn't speak up until 2 days ago, and my mom decided what she wanted to do before Halloween.
  • We usually do a early "dinner" around noon at my parents house (my sister's BF is supposedly coming -meh), then in the evening around 5pm we go to MIL and have another turkey dinner.

This year, MIL has been whining about her actual dinner time, and how we eat at my parents first so she's thinking about going to a restaurant/buffet with DH's sisters and their families, then in the evening maybe DH & I go over there for dessert.  Um yeah, we arent invited to go to dinner with them. So rude.

I am making a TON of stuff, too much probably haha!

Im making: my grandma's noodle recipe (SO excited!), sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, pecan pie, pumpkin roll, and an apple pie.  I havent decided if Im going to make rolls or not yet.  My mom makes green beans and sweet potatoes too, but some people like them one way and some like them another.

In the evening we will flip on our Christmas lights and watch a Holiday movie :)

  • It will be just G and I. His family doesn't really do thanksgiving and my mom has to work the night before and thanksgiving night, so probably won't be up to it.

I am fixing turkey breast, mashed potatoes from scratch, stuffing, green beans, corn and rolls. Will probably pick up something for dessert.

After we eat I will put up some christmas decorations.

  • Anyone else think it's funny that pretty much all of us have family/in-law drama? :-) At least we're all in the same boat :)

  • We'll be going to my mom's for T-giving...We spend most of the big holidays with my family.  I'm always super excited for T-giving.  I worked most of them my adult life, so anytime I have it off, and get to spend it with my family and now my little guy, eating lots of yummy food...it's guaranteed to be a good day : )

Bev, I'm with you too!  Tons of in law drama here.  Always.

This would piss me off to no end!  Definitely dont give them a time of day after this if they dont change.  THey dont deserve to have Bugs love if they arent going to give it!  Hope it wont be too bad.  I've never met Bug, but he's adorable- and hello that face is so sweet :)

  • We are going to see my family on monday (we are on vacation next week) and then to DH's family on thanksgiving.

  • We are doing T-giving here. I'm pretty glad that I have taken over all the holidays. lol I'd like to start doing T-giving back at my Gmaws, but we can't think year b/c MIL and GMIL have no where else to go.

Even though it's here there is still drama! My g-maw wants my drunk of an uncle ( who no one else can stand ) to come, but that's not going to happen. Sometimes I think she just says things like that to drive my mom crazy. Then MIL and GMIL are coming and that is just going to be disasterous. Whatevs...I'm just going to eat my turkey, ham and stuffing and not worry about any of it!

  • We've shared THanksgiving with friends since 2006 - looking forward to doing it yet again!!

we're having friends over to our house for a late lunch - dh is making turkey and homemade cranberries. I'm making homemade bread and a pumpkin roll. our friends are all bringing over dishes as well, such as ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet rice, sweet potatoe casserole, etc. it will be a FEAST!! we'll use our wedding china :)  woohoo!!

  • We're here in Ohio right now to have a "Thanksgiving" meal with my family tomorrow.  On the actual holiday, we'll be spending it with some friends.  We invited them to our place (I've cooked the last two years...I don't mind doing it), but they had already invited people to their house, so we'll be going there.  All I have to make is the stuffing and a pie or two.
