Would You Go To Your 6 year High School Reunion?

Ok, so, my High School class is having our 6 year high school reunion on the 26th - the day after Thanksgiving (we did not have a 5 year).  Dilemna is, DH and I will be out of state in NYC on Thursday spending Thanksgiving with his family.  We technically could get up early on Friday and be home in time for the reunion, but I'm also really tempted to stay in NY and spend time with our NY friends and family.

What would you do?  I'd totally go to the reunion, but don't want to drive all the way home from NY to find that there is no one there / that it is lame (LOL).  DH wants to stay in NYC (of course) and we could do Christmas stuff in the city for the weekend and not come back until Sunday if we stayed.

I was all excited about the reunion, but that was before we decided to spend Thanksgiving with DH's family this year - we originally planned to stay in MA with my family.  Now I am second guessing it.  UGH why does everything seem to happen at once around the holidays?

What would you guys do?  If I don't go I just hope it's well attended because if it's not, I doubt we'll be having a ten year.

Re: Would You Go To Your 6 year High School Reunion?

  • personally, i wouldnt go.  im not going to my 10 year next year.  15 or 20 yes.  until then, no.  but that is just me :)
  • I wouldn't go, especially with all the travel involved. I didn't go to my 5 year back in 2008 because a) everyone I would have wanted to see, I already talked to and b) Facebook eliminates the wonder in knowing what everyone is up to. ;)

Plus, I'm sure your 10, 15 and onward reunions will be much more interesting.

  • You make me feel ancient, Ashley, because I'm attending my 20th reunion next Friday, gah!

In a way, I feel strange about going because none of my closest friends will be there, and my class was full of snobs.  But I don't want to pass it up and then wonder, "What if?"  You should go and at least make an appearance IMO.

  • Yeah, I wouldn't go.  But then again, I skipped both my 5 and 10 year.  I figure anyone I still care to talk to, I do.  Or I stalk them on FB. :-P

Think about how bad holiday traffic is already - especially between NY and Boston.  Do you really want that stress added to the weekend?

  • I would try to see on facebook who is going. If there are a lot of people you want to see  that you know is going then I would go. Otherwise, it's not worth the hassel of traveling.

See, that's what I thought!  I really want to go.  But the question now is, is it worth driving all the way back from NYC for, when we could stay with his family, see our friends and do Christmas stuff in the city all weekend?  UGH holidays always seem to involve making lots of tough decisions like this.

OMG the traffic.  Watch us try to get there and end up missing it anyway because of the damn traffic.

Kind of sounds like you'd rather stay in NYC - I'd skip the reunion.  Anybody you want to keep in touch with you probably already do.  It's handy to have it around the holidays when people are more likely to be around their families, but just more chaos with all the other holiday-related stuff already going on.

  • Skip. If theres gonna be anybody there that you would actually want to see maybe consider coming home late sat nite so you can do a brunch with them sunday before they head home.
  • I'm not going to my 10th this year. Even if i still lived in the area I don't think I would really go. I just saw everyone I really care about that I went to HS with at my wedding. I also didn't go to my 5th and I was in town.

  • I'm the opposite of everyone here...I would go.  Our class was pretty tight and we love our reunions.  With that said, you should go with your gut, heart etc...do what you really want to do.  Don't go on what you think you should do!!  It's always best to trust your gut!

If you go, I hope you have the time of your life!!  (wedding aside! LOL)

  • I would go if you were in town or close by, but with the traveling that you would have to do I would say to skip it. Spend the time with your new family and plan on going to your 10 year, it will be here before you know it.
  • Nope. I don't do reunions, I think my high school class will have their 15 year reunion next year and I won't go. I don't want to.

  • I wouldn't go, I don't think 5/6 or even 10 years is long enough, I skipped out on both mine, because, like everyone else, I keep in touch with who I want, and basically, most of us are friends on facebook.  My 15 year one is in like 3 years, I might go to that, not sure yet, I know I will def go to my 20 year one though.
