So, my mother and I haven't really spoken in a few years - there are a lot of reasons for this most of which really came to a head around the time that DH and I got engaged/married. Anyway, the wedding was a huge fiasco with her, add to that stress DH's sister issues, and thankfully, it all went really well and no one got strangled.
My parents are extremely frugal and I value that. I am not that way (clearly!) but that is my own business. They really went all out for our wedding - really, I think my father saw how my mother was acting and just continued to shell out more money to "make up for it" - we have never really talked about it.
So, yesterday on our anniversary, I sent my mother a text that just said - "Four years ago today, DH and I had a wedding that, IMO, will rival that of William and Kate's. We absolutely loved our day. If the wedding makes the marriage, then we have a lifetime of amazing happiness ahead of us. Thank you."
Her response? "I am glad you at least have positive memories of that day."
