I think I'm going to buy a new range

Does anybody have any recommendations for things I should keep in mind while looking?  Brands I should look for?

I want to get one that has two ovens like this:

  • My grandma has a two oven one and loooooves it.

We got a new one last year.  We can't get gas at our house, so went for the glass top, which I love.  It just feels a lot cleaner.  The oven part also has a steam clean feature.  We just pour some water in it and turn it to steam clean, and all the dirty stuff runs to the bottom in a little puddle you can wipe out.I find it easier than regular self clean (although ours has that too).

  • Lorne's grandma has a two oven one too. It's so awesome. I have no idea what brand it is, but I could email her and ask if you want.

The Nest keeps showing me advertisements for a Kitchenaid one. It's pretty and red.

  • No no...I just saw the ad and it's silver. Apparently my memory just edited the oven to be red so it would match my mixer.

  • For those with wee ones -- how easy is it to babyproof the knobs and stuff?

  • When Will was too little to understand we just put a baby gate up so he couldn't get in the kitchen. Now when he comes in to "help" cook, there's a lot of discussion in very grave tones about the hot oven. Also, he touched a hot pan once, and he's had 0 desire to go near the oven since. Though having your kid touch something hot on purpose is probably not a good parenting technique.

I don't think babyproofing the knobs ever occurred to me. Can you do that?

  • I think if you want to be pregnant you're not supposed to babyproof the knob.

  • They have knob covers, they're kinda just like doorknob covers. We put them on in this house because we have gas and Alex likes to get high.

    And congrats, Cali!!

  • My sister just kept the knobs off of hers and the doors lock so they didn't have to worry about them pulling that down either.  Oh and I'm a Kenmore fan.
  • HT is killing me with her funnies today. I know everyone loves the glass tops, but I think it's a PITA to clean. A razorblade is your friend. I totally want a double oven though.
