Has anyone struggled with HPV?

I had my annual almost 2 weeks ago, and haven't heard any news about whether it flared up.  Tomorrow, I can call the place where my results get sent to, and find out for sure if I'm clear again.  I got diagnosed April of 2008, and had to go for paps every 3-4 months, and then I went 6 months from April 2009- October 2000.  Last October I was able to go a year without having to go.  This marks exactly 1 year, so hoping for the best!

Re: Has anyone struggled with HPV?

  • I'm pretty sure that once you're cleared up, you're good.  But obviously keep going to your yearly pap to keep an eye on it.

  • There is always a possibility it could come back abnormal but I think the chances are pretty slim.  As PP said, just make sure you go every year for a check-up and you can get anything abnormal taken care of right away.  Good luck!

  • I have struggled with it, and every year when I get a pap smear I get nervous, even though I haven't tested positive or had a real irregular pap in like 5 years. I am due for my next one at the end of this month, and I'm hoping it's normal, because last year it was somewhat irregular due to a yeast infection, they think. Ugh. I hate the stress every time!
  • It sucks!  You get all nervous about it, and try not to think about it. Then the doctor brings it up, I absolutely hate going to the appts.  I'm glad you haven't tested positive in awhile.  Good luck for you at the end of the month!

  • I guess I could say that I've been dealing with it for about a year.  I get to go back in 3 months to have another pap.  When my first test came back abnormal, my doctor said that it was pointless to do the HPV test because most girls under 25 will come up positive whether or not they actually have HPV, so I have no clue if it's actually HPV or what.  I really feel like my doctor doesn't tell me enough information.
  • Yea, they told me it was abnormal, and then tested me further.  They told me I did have it, and that I would have to go in for those extra visits.  It was really annoying.  Good luck!
  • I had it and due to the abnormal cells my dr. wanted to go ahead and take a biopsy of part of my cervix and then after getting the results of that they decided to cut out the area that was affected.  Talk about pain.  I haven't tested positive since. :D  It is still annoying having to go to all those appointments. I'm glad Im back to my annual visits!  I wish you luck!
  • I was told 2 different times that I may have had HPV, but when they did the colposcopy they didn't see anything at all. So I don't know if I had it. I'm clear now. I feel for those of you who have it though. Every girl should get tested!!!

  • I also experienced this about 6 years ago-since all of it I have had a normal pap every year since. I believe they say you will always carry it-however it may only flare up or turn abnormal the initial time.. as all the PP have stated-just never miss your annuals.
  • Did it just go away on its own for everyone? I tested positive for it and had severe dysplasia that was confirmed with two colposcopys. Finally in July, I had the LEEP procedure done, which supposedly removed the infected area. I had my 3 month check up last week, and haven't gotten the results back, so my fingers are crossed that all is clear. Its been a hectic and overwhelming year going through it all, and I can't say I'm not worried about these results. Starting to feel like I can't catch a break..
