Our 2nd anniversary is coming up in a couple months and DH and I are trying to figure out what we want to do. With DH out of work, we can't afford to go hog wild and go back to Mexico (like we'd really like to). So, we thought we'd embrace the winter side of our anniversary and go up north and enjoy a winter retreat.
We'd like to stay somewhere with more of a cabin/lodge type feel and hopefully somewhere with a jacuzzi/whirlpool and a fireplace.
I'm hoping that some of you lovely ladies have some recommendations from places that you've stayed or heard of. Like I said, with DH out of work, we can't spend a ton, but we do understand that with our desire for a jacuzzi and fireplace it won't exactly be cheap either.
I'll take any and all recommendations though!
Thanks!
Re: Winter retreat recs for northern MN?
I just made a reservation for DH and I at South Peir Inn in Duluth. We'll be going the first Sunday in January. It looks like a nice little place with lots of good reviews and fun stuff to do. I've never been there, but I'm very excited.
The website is just southpierinn.com.
Let us know what you decide!
DH and I just went up to Crosslake, MN the 3rd-5th of November. It was fantastic. Great little small town and AWESOME Hotel. We got a room with a jacuzzi tub, fireplace in the bedroom. Everything was nicely well kept, the staff were friendly and the scenery around the Hotel was beautiful. I can only imagine how much nicer it will be with snow on the ground. You can also use their fire pit outside, how fun would it be to snuggle up to your DH for a fire outside with some s'mores in the middle of winter? (and then go hop in the hot tub!)

This was our room. I loved it!
Our "living room". Yes, they were two separate rooms!
This was their breakfast area. Behind me is a wall of windows so that you could look outside into nature while eating breakfast.
I'll try to put more in my blog tomorrow. I'll let you know when I do! I'll also put a review in there. If you have more questions PM me.
Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay. All rooms face the lake and they have rooms with fireplace and jacuzzi tubs. Not too mention a large great room with fireplace, pool and nice dining.
I think they are on ski trails too (if that is your idea of embracing winter) and other mn winter activites.
I myself, prefer to stay indoors and watch the waves on the Lake and the snow. Still haven't learned to embrace MN winters

My co-worker took his wife here at the end of August and they loved it.
Do you guys snowboard or ski? Lutsen has awesome ski and stay deals if you do...
I am no help. But, where did you get your cape for your wedding? I love it!
Thanks so much everyone! I'm looking into each of those recommendations right now. I'm really looking forward to somewhere with a true "cozy" feel and think that several of these will fit that!
Now, I'm even more excited to start planning this!!!
Hattieshay - I love that cape too!! It was my saving grace when we did outdoor photos since the high for the day was only 6 degrees!
I actually had it custom made for me by a lady who has a shop on ebay. She has so many variations that she can do and she was so easy to work with.

Is there any chance you have her contact info or ebay website?
I'm doing a winter VR next year and have been looking for the perfect fur jacket, but a cape would be way better!
