Favorite Laundry Detergent?
I normally purchase Tide - more recently the "Total Care" variety.
Seems like they're reformulating a lot of their varieties to contain "ActiLift Stain Remover."
Just for the sake of variety, I picked up a bottle of Purex last time I was at the store. A friend works for Dial on similar formulations and I noticed how much cheaper it was than Tide.
What type of detergent do you use and why? Curious to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
PS - I don't have a HE machine and I'm not interested in anything with bleach or fabric softener incorporated.
Re: Favorite Laundry Detergent?
I use Purex a lot. I read in a Consumer's Report that it works just as well as Tide and is the better value for your money, so since I'm a cheap-skate, I use it. I like Tide just fine, but if something cheaper works, I use it. I've also used the Method brand from Target and I really liked it too.
For some reason, I don't really like Gain. It made my clothes feel weird when I used it once, so I haven't used it again. It may just be me though.
I'm going to start making my own detergent soon, which I've heard works great and is a lot cheaper.
I use Tide and recently have been using Method. I love the bottle size of the Method and that you pump out 4 squirts per normal load and you are done.
I may have to try Purex though based on this post.
I use Tide Free & Gentle which works fine. I use this because I've tried other detergents (regular Tide, Gain, etc) and I have really sensitive skin and everything else seems to make me break out in hives.
My husband used Purex before we got married which he liked alot, and there was some grumbling about the switch to Tide (he missed the good clean laundry scent - there is no fragrance in Tide Gentle).
Breastfeeding and pregnant!
We actually make our own. Keith has a recipe that is made from bar soap (we use Fels-Naptha), borax, washing soda, and water.
It makes a 5 gallon bucket that you then dilute when you put it into the container you'll use (I just use an old Tide container)
Missing our little turkey.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies!
@ER2125 - I should mention the Purex I picked up is actually their "Free & Clear" which looked pretty comparable to the Tide Free & Gentle that my Mom always uses. In case you're interested:

Thank you! I actually checked the Purex Canada site though, and it looks like they might not have it up here. I'll check next time I'm at the store.
