Lady problems (TMI maybe?)

Sorry if this is TMI, DH is no help so I thought I'd ask you ladies before I psych myself out to much.

So I've been on BC for over 5 years now and before that my periods were always regular but lasted about 6 days.  Ever since BC my periods have always been 4 days or so.  Last month and this month it has lasted about 2 days.  I switched pills this past month because my old kind didn't have a generic, but that wouldn't really account for why it was only 2 days last month.  My boobs are also a little sore still too, usually that goes away a day or so into my period.

I'm starting to get a little worried.  The only thing I can think of is being pregnant.  We always use condoms though along with BC so that should be highly unlikely.  I've always been healthy and no other problems in that area so I don't know if anything else would cause this?

I guess I'll be calling the Dr. tomorrow or Monday,  just wanted to run it by here first, it helps just to type it out.  You all seem like you talk about any and everything so hopefully its not TMI, but sorry if it is!

Re: Lady problems (TMI maybe?)

  • I think it could be the change in pills.  My period was 7 days pre-BC and has been anywhere from 2-4 post depending on the pill.  It's 2 now (ortho-trycyclen).  Personally, I would just POAS for peace of mind although I'm sure you're not PG.  I wouldn't bother calling the Dr.
  • I would take a test just to be sure, but I think it's probably just the BC switch that is messing with you. GL!

  • Well I thought I had an explanation until I re-read and saw that your period changed before the switch... I agree that since you use condoms and the pill it's unlikely that you're KU, but the only way to know for sure is to take a test. It sounds like your body is going through some change right now, you should call your doctor, if anything you'll get some answers. Good luck!

This.  I've had months where I never got a period on BC.  This was back when me and DH were just dating so of course I freaked out and tested just to find out that I wasn't PG.  Sometimes your body just reacts differently to the hormones.

  • thanks everyone.  You've given me peace of mind for now.  I've just never ever had a 2 day period so I thought that was really weird. But I guess it happens.  Gonna get a test just in case though..

  • I asked my doctor about the same thing, and she basically told me that was the point of BC.  I went from HEAVY 6-7 days to barely needing a tampon and just a tiny pad for about 3 days.  And she said that was normal with certain pills.
  • Laura, I agree with PP. I think its just nerves from switching pills and not knowing how exactly your body reacts to the new BC. If you're that worried, definitely take a prego test to ease your mind.

Pretty much this for me too.  I took the brand name of my bc for 6 years...then my doctor told me that they finally came out with a generic version so I tried that being cheaper and all.  Messed with my hormones something fierce so I went back to the brand name.  I'm sure your body is just adjusting but to set your mind I'd just take a test.  Good luck!

  • I agree with everyone else's responses. Every bc is different and your body will react to each one differently. The 2 day period isn't really a big deal since you're on bc, it would be more of a concern if you weren't on any hormones.  I've poas many times just for peace of mind even when there was little to no chance of me being pg.
