Anyone been sued?

Well, through the insurance company for bodily injury to someone else b/c of a car accident? I just got a thing in the mail from my insurance company about my accident back in March (which they determined to be my fault...though it was really not 100%...whatever cant worry about that now). It says that the suit may exceed the amount covered by my insurance.

Honestly, the accident wasnt that bad and i cant imagine that somebody got over 25,000 or 50,000 worth of bodily injury from it!!! I bet its the *** that was speeding like crazy in the middle of the city with no registration or insurance that's suing me (3 cars including mine affected by the accident). That shouldn't even be allowed.

I guess i'm asking if anybodys had experience with this or knows what happens if my insurance company cant settle within the amount they cover (obviously im goign to talk to a lawyer too).....im so worried. we already have so many bills and i dont think we can take on anything else right now. I just dont know how we'd pay for it....

  • I've never been in this situation before so I don't have any advice. But I would like to say how super crappy it is and I'm really sorry that you're dealing with this.

how annoying! I hope it all works out and you won't have to pay a dime.

  • That is horrible!  Some people will just do anything to get easy money.  I know it's easier said than done but do your best not to worry about it right now.  There really is nothing you can do at the moment but wait and see what will happen.  It's not even for certain that anything will happen.  If it does, worry about it then.  Get legal advice.  Whatever it is you have to do.  The fact that the driver wasn't carrying their own insurance will hopefully work in your favor.  Think positive!

  • Holy cow! We are required to have $100,000 for bodily injury! Time to beef up your insurance policy. My hubby and I got in a car accident 2 years ago and he was taken to the hospital and had some tests done. Went home like 3 hours later with a nice $20,000 bill so I'm not surprised if someone has more thatn 25 or 50. Not to mention we had to go to the chiropractor for like 3 months afterwards that cost probably another $3000
