Not great but not terrible news...

So went to get violated at the doctor today. It was a new doctor so had to give all the background junk to the PA and afterward she suspected I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) because of my irregular periods I've always had before I started taking the BCP.

I know it's treatable and I can take medicine when Jeremy and I start trying but it still just sucks.

And Jeremy's O neg and I'm A positive so after the first kid, that'll be another shot or medicine I have to take.

/vent.

Re: Not great but not terrible news...

  • Sorry to hear about the PCOS.  My sister has it, and I know there are posters on here (I think Brew, right?) with it.  It's definitely something that you can live with, and not the worst news you can get at the doctor by far.  I'm not saying you shouldn't be upset, but hopefully once the initial shock wears off you'll feel a little less down about it.

    Hang in there!

  • Im with Laura and that even tho it sucks it is workable. Im over on babycenter and they have a board of moms and trying to be moms with PCOS. Maybe head over there and they could help ease some nerves?
  • Thanks girls. I've kinda always figured something was up but this is the first time it's ever been addressed. I'll go over and check out that board. Just disheartening but I still know how lucky I am so definitely still counting my blessings. :)

  • I'm sorry to hear about that.  I wish you the best in dealing with it.

What is it?  I'll have to google it or go to WebMD to find out.

  • Oh crap!  I just read the symptoms and they all sound very familiar.  I don't have irregular periods but I do have heavy flows.

I need to go to the doctor just to get checked out.  I think we may have a problem or not be able to conceive.  We've not used BC in at least 9 years, so to not have had an "accidental pregnancy" is odd, and worries me.

  • Deb-I would definitely get checked.  We were 7+ years w/ no BC and no kid, that was my first clue

Emily-I have it too, it's not the end of the world, but sometimes I feel that way.  When I lurk on the GP board it actually makes me feel worse that there are SO many women out there that want babies and are having a hell of a time conceiving.  I try to stay positive, but most of the time, just not thinking about it works for me (mainly b/c we're not ready yet).

There's also plenty of meds to help you get pregnant when you guys are ready, so keep your head up!
