Moving to Atlanta

Hi Ladies,

My name is Jaimie. My husband recently got a job in Atlanta (kennesaw) and I was hoping you could give me some suggestions on areas to look at for living.  So far I've heard: vinings, kennesaw, woodstock, and acworth.  are there any other places you would recommend?  Are there any places that we should stay away from?

 Thank you so much :)

Re: Moving to Atlanta

  • If your DH is working in Kennesaw-live there or close, traffic is horrible. I grew up in Woodstock and it's great. However, it depends on where he works in Ksaw if Woodstock is even an option. I would suggest the Towne Lake or Sixes Road areas of Woodstock/Canton.Vinings might be a little far- but then again it depends on where in Kennesaw he is going to be working. This won't be the last time you hear this-live near where you work. P.S. you will LOVE GA compared FL!

  • Thank you.

Yeah, I've been told traffic is really bad, so we are hoping to do our best to avoid it.  I've also been told we will love GA, so we are excited about the change.

     Thanks again for the info!

  • Most of Cobb County should be good for you. If you live in Smyrna or Vinings, it's a "reverse commute" as you are going against traffic. East Cobb is also nice. Acworth and Woodstock would be worth checking into as well. Marietta...you have so many options.
  • I live in Woodstock (Towne Lake) and work in Kennesaw. Both locations are close to I-575. My 8-8:30ish work commute is usually around 20-25 minutes while school is in session. Any other time the trip would take half that. Traffic is bad, but not as bad as many other areas. Some people would dream of a 30 minute commute!

I mostly like the area. I hardly ever go south of Kennesaw/Marietta. Everything I need is right here in the 575 corridor. It's nice to be able to go into Atlanta for events, etc. There's a wide variety in housing prices too.

  • If you are looking in the Canton area my BFF lives in Bridgemill and that community is just amazing.

  • thank you for the suggestions.  I'm actually going to be going up there next week and I will look into all the areas you recommended.

BTW, I don't know if you do nestie GTG, but if you do I would love to attend one when we finally get up there.  I don't know anyone in atlanta and I'd love the chance to meet new people ;)

  • We are off sixes rd exit and live off of east cherokee. We LOVE it here. You really cant go wrong in woodstock or towne lake. Welcome to Georgia you are going to love it here.

  • I'm a photographer in Woodstock and we love this area; I grew up in Marietta and it's changed over the years-personally don't recommend some areas of Marietta though you could go to Johnsons Ferry Road area on the edge of Atlanta which is East Cobb. I'm sure you will love Cherokee too. Towne Lake area has LOTS to offer. As mentioned before Bridgemill is great, the Sixes Road area is great too! Harmony on the Lakes is a neat community as well up in Canton! Cherokee has super schools also!!! I know people who moved here just for the schools alone! Good Luck! And if you ever need a photographer let me know! :) Kristie

  • Forgot to say, used to live in Kennesaw...LOTS of options there if your dh wants to be close! :)
