Vacuum rec ? Healthy Home, Multicyclonic Liftoff, Navigator Liftaway

I'm adding a vacuum to my Holiday wish list and have my choices narrowed down to three: Bissell Healthy Home, Bissell Multicyclonic LiftOff, Shark Navigator Liftaway. I've read sooo many reviews on Amazon that my head is spinning. Anyone with dogs, cats, and/or messy toddlers have any of these vacuums and willing to "tell it like it is"? TIA!

  • We have the Healthy Home.  We have both a dog and a cat and I can't rave about this vacuum enough.  It gets SO MUCH off the floor that I'm amazed and disgusted every time we vacuum.  We got a great deal on it at Target last year (I think) between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I don't know how it compares to other vacuums, but I can say that it was money well spent for us and we're totally happy!

  • We have the Healthy Home, also. I like it well enough. I like to use the Arm & Hammer baking soda carpet shake when I vacuum, and it seems like the Healthy Home gets a little clogged with baking soda residue and dog hair (our dog sheds, but it's minimal). I've found that if you try and clean it out regularly, it keeps much better suction. There isn't really an easy way to clean the front part of it (near the brushes), which is kind of annoying. Overall, it's a good vacuum for the price. Ours also came from Target.

  • i would recommend looking at the cost of replacement filters for whatever vacuums you are interested in, had i realized that filters for the hoover windtunnel i got were $25 each and i would need to change it about 4 times a year, i would have sprung for a more expensive filter-free option, like a dyson.

Great point! Here I am just thinking "Yay-no more bags to buy", I didn't even think about the filter cost. The Navigator has a washable filter. The Healthy Home seems to be a Nestie favorite, and Good Housekeeping liked it. My MIL has a Dyson as well as several other vacuums and says it doesn't clean any better, but they have a large dog who sheds and sheds. Any vacuum that can combat their dog hair is worth its weight in gold ;)
  • While the dyson has a washable filter, it also has a filter that's not washable and it is expensive to replace. Don't think you're getting a deal.

I have one I'm looking to replace.

I found out the same thing recently. Also Dyson's belts cannot be replaced individually, must replace the entire clutch assembly which is around $75 installed.
