How do you/plan to decorate..

Your Christmas tree? This will be the first year we have one and I'm a lil lost on how I want to do this. Any ideas or PIP's of your past trees would be great =)

Re: How do you/plan to decorate..

  • This is my first year having my own full size tree as well.  I think I'm just going to use a lot of my mom's ornaments that she's giving me and get some bright colored ones from Target or something.  I'm going to try to find a lighted tree topper to add something more to it.

  • Ours is a hodge podge of stuff.

My mom started collecting ornaments for me the year I was born... so I have one ornament a year from '77 to now.  And then I have some that I have bought over the years.

There's a lot of history on that tree and I adore it.

Oh, and I think I have about 15 years worth of Mother/Daughter ornaments.  Mom started that, too.

  • This is our 4th year having our own tree. When I first decorated it, the OCD in me came out and I only bought white, blue and silver ornaments. I love the way it looks. It's got a lighted, silver snowflake topper, some twinkle lights and I love it.

My mom gave us some ornaments to represent us and our lives, and even though they don't match our tree I still like having them on.

  • this will be i think our 5th tree together. its a red and gold theme but we have a ton of other ornaments from when were kids. we always either pick out a new ornament together or i get one for H every year.

  • We had a little tree last year, it was our first tree together.

We just used some plain ornaments and some specials that we got together

  • eclectic. my father's family lived in germany for a while, so my christmas style is heavily influenced by western european ornaments. lots of wood. lots of homemade items. cuckoo clocks, painted wood eggs, wooden figures/nativity's.

this year is the first year DH and i will have a full size tree. (it'll be fake..which i hate. a lot.) we've got some things i collected/bought, some things i've made, and some things i will acquire from my family.

i hate the idea of a theme tree as the "family" tree. i like a tree with history. when i pull out the ornaments i want them to have memories.

  • I have colored lights, wooden cranberry beads, green, red, and silver balls, a ton of various ornaments, and an angel topper.  I adore everything about it.

Like Knibs, many of my ornaments were purchased for me by my mom over the years (since childhood).  My mom and my grandma have given me several ornaments that I grew up with from their trees.  Those mean a lot.  Others came from family members, friends, trips, ornament exchanges, etc.  Nothing on there I just "bought" because I needed ornaments.

My first few trees were a little sparse... more balls, less ornaments.  But over the years I've gotten so many ornaments that it might be time for a bigger tree.

Yup.  History.  I have ornaments on mine that I made in Girl Scouts YEARS ago.  LOL.  My first ever Pooh ornament and a Raggedy Anne and Andy which are seriously falling apart.  I noticed the Andy head is trying to fall off.  It's over 30 years old!

When we move and have a larger space, we want to have another tree.... more of a theme, I guess. White lights and red and silver ornaments would look great with our living room.  But I would like to be able to still keep this one with the family stuff on it.  One in a den and one in a living room. LOL.  I LOVE decorating for Christmas.

I would love to do a themed tree and then a more sentimental tree with all of the ornaments I've collected throughout the years.

My grandma puts a tree up in every room and each one has a different theme... I believe she has 6 or 7 trees each year.  It's crazy but they are so cool.  The one she puts in mine and my brother's room when we stay there has all of the Disney ornaments that she's collected throughout the years when she took us there.

This is exactly what I want to do.  The kids have a tiny pink tinsel tree in their room and we have a 4foot tall Disney tree in the corner of the kitchen.  The kids love having 3 trees!

I got the Disney tree while at Disney World during Christmas a few years ago.  If you stay during Christmas, you can order a tree from the florists there.  It's adorable.  4 feet tall with a wooden box holder.  It's got white lights, some of them frosted, little berry looking things all over, a few beautiful glass mosaic leaves and a few sparkly trees. And little Santa hats with Mickey ears!  LOL.  They can ship it home for you and that's what I had them do.

The Disney tree fits perfectly into the kitchen corner by the window, right between the kids seats.  They love to stare at it!

  • This is our first tree. we aren't doing anything special with it, just doing a burgundy and old gold theme.
