NaNo fail

I've decided to give up on Nano.  I'm so sad by this.  Unfortunately, I just have way too much schoolwork to do over the next few weeks.  I'm graduating in December, so I've got a lot to get done before then.  I love my story so far, so I'm definitely going to pick up with it once school is over.  I'll have a lot more time to work on it then.

Re: NaNo fail

  • I would say you really have a Nano "pause" and not a fail.  Look at how far you've gotten while trying to balance school and life.  Good luck when you pick up your story and early Congrats! on your graduation!  Hopefully we'll see you next year for Nano!
  • What about instead of completely giving up you just revise your goal.  Maybe set a daily word count goal of a couple hundred words, or commit to sitting and writing for 20 minutes everyday?  Speaking from experience, if you stop cold turkey, the likelihood of you ever resuming this story is actually very small (and I've read many blogs and articles on this very topic as well).  You owe it to the effort you've made already not to completely give up!

I like this idea.  It definitely makes sense to keep working with my story.  Taking too much time off from it might make it harder to get back into.  I'm definitely going to try to squeeze some writing time in every day now.  Even if it is only 20 minutes.

  • I keep telling people on the Nano forums that it's not a fail if you try it.  You're doing something that most other people only talk about.  It would be a fail if you talked and talked and never attempted it.
