anyone have a mamogram?

Just wondering how bad they hurt? Also how long to get results typically?

Re: anyone have a mamogram?

  • Despite all the horror stories about how bad they hurt, I don't think it hurt at all (recommendations are to have your first, a baseline at 35 unless there's a need for it prior).  From what I understand though, it kinda depends on how well you're endowed.  The smaller-breasted women, more likely to hurt.  From what I recall doesn't take all that long to get results.

  • I just had one last week. it didnt hurt at all. they got the results to me within a few hours. that was just because the computers were down, i believe they tell you right away if something needs biopsied
  • good to know! I probably will need to get one this week after my appt. I'm bigger chested so I guess that will help with the pain! Thanks!
  • My sister had one and said it was completely painless. :)

  • I've had one...it was fine...and I'm not well-endowed at all.  It makes no matter how big/small chested you are in terms of "pain" issues...it really has to do with the density of your breast.

There's pressure when they squish you...but not pain.  It was more uncomfortable standing in the awkward position you hold yourself in.  If you have super dense breast tissue, though, they have to squish a little harder to get an accurate picture.

I had results from my doc within the week.
