So DH bought me a new laptop today. Exciting news, I suppose, but there is a story behind the new computer.
Last night, at about 1:30am, DH came into our bedroom and said, "Hun, you gotta get up. I broke your laptop." My response was, "Nah, it's probably just frozen or something. Not a big deal." And he said, "No. It's broken. Go look at it." So I got my butt out of bed and went and looked. Sure enough. The screen was cracked and broken. Apparently, DH was getting up from the couch to put my laptop away when he tripped over the cord and the laptop flew into the corner of the coffee table, cracking the screen.
My old laptop was only a little over a year old, and the year protection plan had expired back in September. DH felt, and still feels, aweful, so he went in to Best Buy and bought me a new laptop from his personal account (we share one, but each have a small personal account with our own guilt-free spending money). They don't make mine anymore, so he got me the step up, which is very nice. So yeah, got a new laptop, but not really the best situation.
Re: New Laptop
lol...sorry I'm laughing...but I'm envisioning a flying laptop...
Hopefully it didn't set your H back too much tho. :-)
Sorry to hear that!
We have had a couple of close calls here too with computers and wires. I did accidentally trip and unplug DH's computer when he was working on lessons a few weeks ago. He was so mad! It was not smart of me to be cleaning around the wires at that time, though I must admit.
Can you get the stuff off your old computer?
Aw, that does stink! I've lost lessons I'd been working on before, too, and it does suck because they can take an aweful lot of time. And, yes, we can still get stuff off of my old computer if we transfer it to an external hard drive. The biggest problem is that you can't see anything on the screen because it's cracked and doesn't show anything. However, DH says he knows a way to transfer to the external hard drive without having to see the screen, so we'll see. I didn't have anything on my laptop that I hadn't saved anywhere else except for a couple of pictures, so it's not a huge deal.
Yay for the new comp! You could connect to an external monitor or even a tv with the right cords in order to display to another screen and see the files.
DH spilled kool-aid into my laptop just a few weeks after we were married and the hard drive was completely destroyed. Luckily I had backed up a few weeks before the wedding, so not too much was lost forever. We're planning to buy a nice desktop on black friday.
