stinky sofa

Other than Febreeze, what can I use to get my couch smelling fresh? It just has a musty smell from DH taking long naps on it and our pets spending the day on it.

TIA!

Re: stinky sofa

  • Are the cushions and covers fixed or removable?
  • If the covers arent removable and washable, then the couch needs to be cleaned, either professionally or with a rented cleaner. You cant just cover up the odor, the couch is dirty and need to be cleaned.
  • Have you tried vacuuming your couch? We nap frequently on ours & have a dog that sheds a lot so we vacuum the couch every other week and use the pets febreeze once a week. Seems to be working well for us since no one has mentioned anything =)
  • H & I still use the couch my parents bought when I was 10.  It had a "scent" to it that only I smelled (H says I have the nose of a bloodhound).  I actually sprayed it down with white vinegar.  Obviously you will want to do this when you plan to be out of the house or can open windows/blow fan on it and make sure your pets stay off of it until it is completely dry.  The smell is gone.  Not sure what it was but I'm glad it's gone.
