xp from D&R I had a busy weekend

I'm still planning on adding nailhead trim to the headboard but it's basically done. I built it all by myself!

Like it?

It's sitting in the garage... It's really pretty but I wanted something upholstered and light instead so I'm either going to take it apart and reuse the wood or sell it, if someone wants it Wink

  • LOVE IT. If we didn't buy a complete bedroom set, I would have made one for our room. I almost made one for the guest room but never found the time to, now I am glad I didn't because we no longer have a guest room.

Is that twill fabric? Its very classy looking.

It's actually my old curtains from Ikea! It's cotton but has a really nice texture to it, almost linen like!

The true test... how it holds up to some love making. Cool

    Ha true!

KT and I did a little jumping up and down and such as a "test" last night after she helped me set it up.

    So far so good.

Truth be told we usually save the roughness for places other than the bed Surprise

  • Wow! That is beautiful. Nice work!

I used these instructions but with adjustments for my King size bed...

    http://high-heelfootinthedoor.blogspot.com/2010/08/diy-colette-upholstered-bed.html

I also added more supports under and made the headboard higher.

ETA: I also attached the head board differently (better option imo) using cross braces running from the middle of the headboard to the ground and bolted onto the frame of the bed.

Did you use giant MDF?  I was talking to my dad about using his tools to build the Simple Farmhouse, but I'm starting to question myself again (i.e. fabric vs wood)

Plywood was cheaper so thats what I used, and I used mattress pads like the blog too, because they were only $9 a piece at Wal-fart.

You could definitely manage either one, and if you need any help you just let me know Big Smile

Oh if you do upholstered and electric staple gun is ABSOLUTELY necessary, my hands hurt like a mo-fo and they are swollen and red, OUCH! Tongue Tied

I really like the upholstered, it's sooo pretty!

An electric staple gun was my birthday gift from my parents last year.  I'm a geek that puts those kind of things on the list.  I think I'm leaning towards upholstered now, as long as my dad didn't pick up any wood for the other (he's like that, I could see showing up for Thanksgiving and it being done - even though I just told him I'd like to borrow his tools Smile

I'm so going to take you up on project helping when we're in the house, and I figure what the heck I'm doing and what I'm just dreaming of doing.

  • What size is the other headboard??  Our mattress has been sitting on the floor since we moved to Florida in May and I'd really like to remedy that in our next place...
